3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 cagou007 (149) - FRANCE - APR 12, 2013
Cloudy coppers color with a thick and persistent white head. Aromas are grass, caramel malt, pine and, naturally, a lot of hops. Great and long bitter finish. Good IPA.

Putting great, expressive hops in the hands of brewers with exceptional finesse; thank you to whoever convinced Yvan and Bernard that this was a good idea. This is what happens when you take fruity, aromatic, exuberant American citrus hops and send them to finishing school, winding up spicy-bitter, not resinous, dry, lively, in a gorgeous deep golden sturdy-foam-capped frame. All those other so-called "Belgian" "IPAs" need to recognize.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TURDFERGUSON (3565) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - MAR 8, 2013
Bottle from Sam's. deep, opaque, but layered reddish orange with a thick medium sized white head and lots of sticky lace throughout. Nose is earthy, dusty, grassy, fresh toasted malts. Light butterscotch and citrus-y hops come out as it warms a bit, but overall it's a little dull and smells a little old (I can find no date stamp, but don't remember seeing this there before today though I only go to this store a couple times a month). though sometimes it smells fresher and bright and other times more grainy. Belgian yeast character is stable throughout and does not detract from aroma. Flavor is a similar--bittering hops still there a bit but also more noticeably grainy and the yeast character combined with the old hops leads to a dirty, lightly metallic finish. Darn, I had high hopes for this as I love almost everything de la Senne and I rarely see one for sale in NC. Appearance and body were the best part which shows that this beer when fresh is probably much, much better. Hope to re-rate with a fresher bottle someday.

Aroma is pine, citrus, yeast and biscuit malts. The flavor is citrus, light grapefruit, a hard to describe bread-like quality and a very bitter finish.

Bottle courtesy of sebletitje, thanks Sebastian! The 33cl bottle pours into my Tilquin Gueuze glass with a pale copper body that supports a tall booming light tan head of foam. The aroma forces out spicy hops, floral hops, a bit of flowery perfume and then a bit of grapefruit peel at the edges of the experience. Alright, the taste has a pleasing hoppiness with a tasty mix of both hop flavor and firm hop bitterness. I get bitter grapefruit to orange peel citrus notes filled in lightly by floral hops and little islands of malt sweetened hop flavor. To midway the bitterness peaks as the tiny bit of malts fades away and leaving the beginnings of a dry slightly resiny hop finish. Into the finish and after taste it mellows out with faint malt sweetness and lingering, largely citrus hoppiness. Pretty nice offering.

hazy orange, frothy white head, large bubbled. Nose is lightly cheesy and orange, woody controlled. Flavor is similarly cheesy, light orange candy front becomes wood mid before more candy and marshmallow finish. Just on edge of over-sweet, thin palate keeps it reasonable.
