Belgian Stout in the Irish style with 4.5% alc.: light, dry, and freshly bitter with complex roasted notes. The scent is pleasantly fragranced by the presence of an English aromatic hop particularly appreciated by connoisseurs.

33 cl bottle, $1.90 at Binny’s, April 2011. Another lower-alcohol beer I should have finished long ago. Yet when opened, there’s a definite waft of alcohol in the air. Poured into a Nonick glass, it’s black with brown highlights, a slightly foamy stout head. Smell up close has slightly roasty stout grain. Taste has some coffee stout roast up front. Dry mouthfeel which still has nice hop bitterness. At this stage, it seems like more of a sharp German bitterness than English. And I like it just fine. Some dregs at the bottom. A secondary ferment? Maybe that’s why this one has held up very well. I can slightly credit my beer cellar which stays at a nice 50°F when I lean the door in front of it.

Bottle picked up at State Line in Elkton, MD. Served in a De La Senne tulip. Pours a dark brown color with a good light tan head and some lacing on the sides of the glass. The nose carries distinctive Belgian yeast along with some chocolate and roast. Flavor hits on the roast and chocolate with yeast and fruit in the background. Some light spice. Medium body with a semi-dry finish. Pretty good.

25 cl. draft in a De la Senne glass @ Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas – I have been on the look out for this one for quite some time – A: black going to dark brown, seemingly clear with a very thick & first tanned head – S: slightly roasted chocolate malts, liquorish & hops – T: sweet roasted chocolate malts, Belgian yeast, strong touch of darker, sweeter berries (especially aftertaste), coffee, winter spices, touch liquorish, slight hint of bitterness buried in the finish, plenty of sweet cold coffee – B: medium but very firm, slightly sticky - yummy, yummy goodness

11.2oz bottle: Appearance is pitch black with large tan head. Aroma is basic with just roasted malt. Flavor is mostly roasted malt with hints of spice. Pretty basic for a Belgian brew, but overall a decent stout.

330ml bottle. Pours a deep, dark mahogany, beige head. Rich nose, lots of roasted malts, hops, coffe beans, chocolate. Medium body, dry, pronounced bitterness, slightly acidic. Rich, roasted, malty taste, notes of yeast, hops and coffee beans. Dry, tart finish. (2011-10-04)

If you never tryed that one, you don’t know what a stout is. The Legend says that the brewer says you need to eat oysters with. Nice coffee taste, well present. Contrebalanced by a strong fresh hoppy side.

Bottle @ Polku’s tasting session. Originally rated on 21.9.2010. Okay for such a low ABV, but slightly light bodied and watery stout.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales in Asheville. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a pillowy tan head Nose of sweet coffee and chocolate, with some burnt grain and mild Belgian yeast notes. Taste shows the same. Packs a great deal of flavor into a low ABV beer, so that’s a definite plus.
