Clearish brown coloured body on the pour, but fading to a muddy deep ruby-tinted brown with a thinnish tan head (one centimetre) and a nice opaque look. Aroma of fruits, apples, pears and a good curacao scent. Scents of yeast, coriander seed and spices also come through - if you didn’t see the colour, you’d think this is a tripel since there are no roasted malts in the nose nor any bitter coffee/chocolate/nuts. Medium-bodied; Very assertive effervescence fading to a light maltiness and a subtle bitter nut flavour with almost nothing else in the flavour - very mild. Strong aftertaste with almost no backbone - very odd! Overall, an amazing looking and smelling beer, but the taste is completely bland and simple - an odd beer to say the least! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, D.C. on 07-March-2009, sampled at home here in Washington on 15-March-2009.

12oz bottle. Not really into this one. Tasted on the sour side. Closer to a milk stout but not. Not quite sure what it is but something seemed off with the taste.

skortila (4505) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - MAR 10, 2009
Bottled. Aroma has dark roasted quality chocolate. Really nice. Black coloured beer with a beige head. The taste is a bit carbonated has some chocolate bitterness and sweetness. Medium bodied. I expected a bit more intense chocolate in the taste and less sparkling carbonation. Has a lot of potential.

33cl bottle. Black with a beige head. Strongly roasted malt aroma, with a light milk chocolate touch. Dry, roasty flavor, medium light in body with prickly carbonation, and medium bitterness that seems to be mostly due to the roast. Not really what I was expecting. Is this belgian or Irish? Not sweet or fruity or yeasty, but the strong, dry, roasted finish was actually pretty tasty.

Pours a dark black color with a huge head. Nice sweet malt aroma. Slighted roasted with hints of dark fruits. Smooth creamy texture on the palate. A light body accompanies the roasted flavor. Interesting aftertaste, a little spicy.

ggaughan (100) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, LUXEMBOURG - MAR 1, 2009
33 cl bottle. The beer poured a deep deep brown, nearly black body with a slight tan head that gave way to a little ring on the edge of the glass with some good lacing. There was a pleasing roasted malt aroma. The taste was a nice chocolately and roasted malt base with notes of coffee and a slight hop bitterness on the back. Medium body.

.333->english pint: Pours a huge, rocky, off-white, lasting head that exhibits spare lacing atop a black body. Aroma of toasted molasses, perfume, and sweat. The body is medium, the texture of minerals and grit, and afinish of metal. The flavor’s duration is average and is moderately acidic, finishing with a mineral taste. This beer somewhat smooths out as you drink it.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a large, frothy, off-white head, mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Aroma is average malt (cookie, hay, straw, toasted grain), light hops (herbs, grass), heavy yeast (horse blanket, must) with notes of dates and dust. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.
