Bottle from Kris Wines. Light yellowish colour. This is a fantastic beer, light flowery citrus character, ever so slightly yeasty and spicy, fresh tasting, dry and bitter. Loads of taste, low abv. Splendid.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow, with a big creamy head. Aroma is tart wooden yeast, and crisp hops, as well as some roasted malts with notes of bread. Medium body, with average to fizzy carbonation. Flavour is bitter with crisp zesty hops, with grassy notes, citrusy lemon and grapefruit, as well as peppery notes of wooden yeast on a back of bready malts. Lingering bitter finish.

Bottle from Glug, Newcastle. A cloudy yellow-white coloured beer that pours with a huge rocky head of foam. It has a spicy, lemon and tart citrus flavour, creamy vanilla followed by sharp grapefruit and biscuit on the very dry finish. Excellent for the relatively low ABV (for a Belgian beer).

Tap at Monk’s. Cloudy dingy golden with a dense rocky white head. Lemon and golden with a little green, a little grass, a little noble goodness. Thin light body, clean but aggressive light bitterness, smooth and dense without any mineral character. Spicy peppery saison character but very restrained. Classic hard-bop Belgian bitterness. The aftertaste contains all these multitudes and just lasts forever, very moreish this summer.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2015 Bottle@home. Pours a pale greenish yellow with a thin, fast fading head, medium carbonation. The typical yeasty smell of de la Senne is there again, floral (orange blossom) hints, some sweetness of the malt gets through, and I got a whiff of fff on the middle note. (Freshly Fermented Farmland) I love it for its hop bitterness, slight citric acid edge, hints of malt and a very fine soft silty lacing in the ending, that mingles nicely with the bitter notes. It has a watery mouthfeel, with sharp though fast fading carbonation, which I guess leaves the citrus edge. Historically I think this should be called a proper saison, in the sense that it’s low in alcohol, very refreshing indeed, one you can drink all day, and keep on working aswell... Whatever it may be, I think it’s a prime thirstquencher, with good hopbitterness to it, but still elegant. A lovely everyday beer!
