4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, - JUN 17, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 25, 2011 2011-09-21, draught at Moeder Lambic, Fontainas, 8-4-7-3-14=36 Cloudy blond color (first glass to be poured from this keg), with giant and creamy head, covering the sides of the glass like a lace made of yogurt. The aroma is graceful and impressive, with crispy malt, light Belgian yeast, delicate grassy hops. The body is light, with mild malt flavor; the yeast character is too much (was the keg shaken?) giving a spicy, peppery note, increasing the bitterness, and ending with some astringency. Must try a cleaner glass...
2008-12-05, 8-5-8-4-16=41 Cloudy deep blond color, with a huge and compact head. Very good aroma, strong, spicy hops, light fruitiness too. Good body strength and good malt flavor, quite dry (because of the strong bitterness), with a sharp spicy character. The final is powerful and long. It doesn’t betray the Belgian tradition, but pushes it in a right direction; the combination of spicy Ales with a more powerful hopping has a good result here. Very good.
2007-06-08, 7-4-7-4-15=37 Hazy blond color; nice perlage; thin persistent head. Good hoppy aroma, some malt and spices. Dry mouthfeel, but correct body strength, some malt flavor (light), quite sharp spicy character (coriander and white pepper), strong bitterness. Pleasant, refreshing.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Hazy deep yellow-golden with a big white head. Aroma of some spiciness, yeast, hops, citrus, flowers and a bit of grass. Fruity flavor, yeasty and spicy with a moderately bitter finish with a bit of hops. Medium-bodied. Pretty refreshing.

Expected more hops from a self proclaimed "Extra hoppy ale", but of course it is Belgian
Still enjoyable

330ml bottle @ Beer Bistro Toronto. Poured a light, hazy yellow. Moderately sized but thick white head. Notes were very subtle, mild citrus tang is all I could discern. Taste was light citrus, mild hop, fairly dry. Long bitter finish with a decent astringent bit. Would try again.

Flavour is very yeasty with strong, somewhat sour, fruit notes - apple and other tropical fruits - with some grains. Modest bitterness in finish. Pleasant.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 8, 2012
I find this an ideal beer to drink during the afternoon when in Belgium, not too strong alcohol wise and hoppy enough to satisfy my thirst. I’ve also had it in cask form in the UK; this review however is from a bottled one: taken at The Red Rose in Brugge.
Correct glass; bronze to amber body, white coloured head with staying power.
The smells are of yeast, citrusy hops with a somewhat earthy nature.
The taste is hoppy and yeasty, with some malty undertones, becoming a little more bitter towards the end of each sip.
Carbonisation about right even though it can look and be a bit fizzy on occasions, it didn’t on this tasting.
A Belgian beer to chat over, or even have a mini session on: no great, wonderful or exotic flavours to enthuse about, just a pleasant beer and well worth having.
