4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 TAR (2236) - Lafayette, USA - AUG 31, 2007
Golden straw. Ornate stark-white head adorns the glass and entices the senses. Hop aromas are fragrantly herbal with oodles of honeysuckle and lemon zest qualities. Hints of musty yeast, cork, perspiration, and doughy Pilsner malt. Fluffy effervescence graces the palate. Juicily hoppy and bracingly grassy and herbal, initially, with a pinpoint snap of plasticy phenols. Brisk, crunchy and simultaneously-fluffy honeyish malt provides an elegant foundation, and the yeast, which sits atop, enriches things by coating the palate with a mild pistachio characteristic. Malt is extraordinarily deep, and its dusty hay-like malt textures cling to the filmy yeast which helps buoy the body. Highly appetizing flowery-hop softness. Extravagant beyond belief. Magical equilibrium of phenols, esters, hops, yeast, and malt. Notes of honeydew impart a soft slipperiness. Absolutely clean as a whistle, and the low alcohol never interferes with the vast array of subtleties. The core possesses just enough residual sweetness to complement the rich yeast. Lemony twang emerges as the temperature rises, and immediately beckons you for another large gulp. Dense hop backbone also lends a peppery sting which is augmented by the invigorating dryness and zippy phenols. Finishes remarkably well-integrated with a full but clean yeastiness, peach-fuzz bitterness, and a background sweetness reminiscent of dried pineapple. Juicy and peppery hops harmonize with the minty and aniseed dryness and accentuate the lingering Pilsner malt which is artfully extracted. Airy phenols, bright herbs, and honeysuckle exude with each burp. Hot diggety! If you are a lover of low-gravity Belgian blondes with a host of subtleties that seem to reveal themselves in a variety of ways with each sip, then you’ll adore this. This 750ml bottle certainly kept me entertained for 3+ hours. De la Senne is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries

Served on bottle at beer mania in Brussels. Great Belgian IPA. Seriously bitter. Pours hazy golden blond. Faint floral hops on the nose, intense bitter hop flavor.

I was a bit disappointed by this one. Pours cloudy golden with no head. Smells weak and a bit sweet. There are some great malt and hop characteristics, but they don’t balance well at all. Starts well, but quickly loses its appeal.

Drank on the terrace of the ’Belle Vue’ on the sea front in St Idesbald, the Belgian coast: Sept 2007.
Recommended by the barman.
Almost clear, it was a straw blonde golden colour with a good white head, I like to think I poured it well.
The aroma, taste and mouthfeel all came across as fairly sour, strong flavours of grapefruit and lemons, not an unpleasant experience at all. This beer was more than just drinkable, it was enjoyable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JorgeLee (328) - Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 29, 2012
Tap at Moeder Fontainas. A pale yellow beer with a white head. Aroa is fresh, with citrus hops. Taste is initially spicy, before a long bitter citrus hop feel bursts through. Lengthy finish. Highly drinkable and a sensibly lowish alcohol content means you can actually drink it. Very good pale ale with Belgian characteristics.

Glowing orange body, fierce, small bubbly white head. Fragrant Belgian, but modern aroma, orange peel, sharp grassy hops, juniper berries. Sharp tasty bitter base. Medium carbonation. But very drinkable and lots of taste for this (especially for Belgians) modest abv. Very classy brew. (33cl bottle)
