Pale brown beer with a biere de garde style head. Airy malty aroma with a bitter flavour and a dry finish. A good French ale, better than most French beers.

Foggy oranges growing in soggy, bubbly caramel...A coriander interlocutor placidly discusses with brown sugar...A little oxidation interferes with a pleasurable finale...

Bottle Conditioned. The "Thirsty Brewery" is a micro that opened in 1999 in Brittany. Barbe Torte, named after the first Duke of Brittany, is an unpleasant muddy amber colour, but does have a mildly attractive aroma of boiled beef and cabbage with some well rotted and sickly citric notes. Mouthfeel is fresh with just a touch of a spritzy finish. The flavours seem more muddled than complex, leaning towards some of the lower alcohol Belgian styles, but nothing definate comes to mind. There's salt and there's malt and there's a suggestion of fruit, but nothing can be pinned down. Finish is watery with some hop oil remaining to coat the mouth. Not a great success.

Amber color, generous head. Some malt nose and good malty body; some yeast. Not bad…
