3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2009 Drunk this on tap under the currant name, must say this better than the bottle version.
Bottle 0,3ltr: Winter ales supposed to be warm and spicy and have some roasted malts, maybe use some of chocolate and caramel, but this one don’t have it all. 2.8 score

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. Yeasty dough and orange aroma. Dark amber color, yellowish head, good lace, hazy. Very sweet, orange, cookie, several spices, light bitter, sticky, alcohol pretty much hidden. Little bit out of balance and lack courage but flavors are ok.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottled) Hazy darkish amber color with a small, quickly fading head. Toffee-grainy-malty, slightly unclean, but not that bad aroma with some malt liquourish feel. Toffee-malty, grainy and slightly, but surprisingly mildly alcoholic flavor with some vegetable off-flavors. Medium to full-bodied palate with medium carbonation. You’d better keep the yeast off the glass with this one! This is not hopeless overall - it would make a great malt liquour, but as a Belgian Strong Ale it really can’t fight back. I think I’m done with this brewery now... the good thing is, that all their beers seem to be organic.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2007 2002 version. Tiny bits of yeast float through this beer. No head. Portoaroma. Yeasty raisinny flavor, very alcoholic and prickly with porto and some tropical fruit. Poor quality compared to the great Belgian strong ales ( 6 2 6 2 10 = 2.6)
2006 version: reddish orange color. Malty, syrupy aroma with a hint of licorice. malty, suagry sweet flavor. Distant hops and a hint of lciorice. The alcohol is hidden by the sweetness. Chewing gum. Nice, clean, inoffensive, powerful and likeable barley wine. The quality of this beer has improved considerably over the years.
