Aroma hardly noticable. Is indeed malty-chocolate like. Slightly hazy, brown coloured with an off-white-brown head. head is gone very very quickly. Taste is spakling, malty (chocolate). Slightly bitter, very watery. Not too great.

Strong chocolat aroma. Brown color, light brown head, fair lace. Light sweet, bitter, mainly chocolat, some licorice, light roasted, sparkling, medium body. Not bad but it lacks something, not perfectly balanced for example.

bierkoning (8109) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - FEB 25, 2004
This one is made by the new brewer jan Wolfs. Milky buttery toffeearoma and flavor. Bitter, chicory. Espresso coffee. Chocolate. Unusual flavors for an abbey dubbel. Lacks perfection.

A really, really sour Dubbel. Not good.

UPDATED: JUN 5, 2006 Rerate: tap, de Pintelier, Groningen. After a couple of years i tried this beer again, and it isn’t that bad. But the brewery has changed brewers in the meantime, so that might be the trick. Nowadays, it’s a decent double beer, although it still lacks some body. Originale rating: Nut brown color. This is Gueuze sourness mixed with dubbel malty sweetness. A bad mix i would say. Sourness is not something i’d like to taste in a dubbel.
