Première sorsé pas éclatante. Avec quelque chose à manger ça passe mieux mais c’est une bière avec peu de caractère.

Mahogany colour. Beige head. Aroma is malty, fruity (raisins, dried fruits) with light caramel notes. Flavor is malty too with fruity (prunes) and light almods and peanuts tones, ending in a moderately fruity, slightly wooden finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle at Capital. Dark brown hints of red, small creamy golden head. Aroma is not so strong, ovaltine, fruity dubbel, small roastiness. Taste is roasty, chocolate, brown sugar, fruity too, citrus plus something else too. Caramel, cookies, dough. Really nice. Lightly spiced. Nice and easy drinking, and lots of flavour for the %. Nice and smooth, with just a little spike from the bitterness.

Bottle, pours a deep mahogany with a fine white head, old wine and wood on the nose, flavour is earthy but not entirely in a good way, a bit of peppery spiciness and cherry, but overlaid with a musty dry woodiness. Something not right here, methinks - and indeed I just spotted that the best-before is Dec 2012, but I’d never have expected a 6.5% Dubbel to age this badly. Live and learn..

KyotoLefty (6145) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 10, 2013
Bottle from ABC Drinks. Chocolaty, winy nose, tons of raisins, maybe figs, dried fruit, plus apples coming out later. Slightly spicy. Very rich, full nose. Dark maroon-brown with a tall, fine, pillowy head. Not nearly as sweet as expected, rather tart actually, caramel, dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, orange, apples. Well balanced, though not as rich as the nose leads one to believe. Tangy finish is just slightly bitter. Light and clean dubbel, it turns out, with high drinkablility but not so much depth. Still good.
