Very good pink head, leaving lace over clear ruby beer. Smoked cherry nose. Not overpowering, but intriguing. Like old cherry skins on alcohol. Nice, dry, if not sour cherryflavour - but neither artificial. MF has a lipsmacking sourishness then, that is refreshing. Quite some (fruit?)slickness, grist; long fruity aftertaste. Very good non-lambic kriek. Misses maybe just a tad sourishness in order to appeal to greatness. Why not try, and recreate the Zottegemse Kriek from Crombé times...?

Bottle from the LCBO. Deep red-rose body with pink head. Aroma of sour cherry, sour oak, of bit of herbal funkiness, and a tart lemony tang. Flavour follows with similar notes, leading into a particularly acidic & puckeringly sour finish that I could see being off-putting to some, but not for me - if my stomach could take it, I’d happily drink this all night.

33cl bottle. Deep dark red pour with light pink head, little to lacing. Aromas of bread, cherry and nuts. Taste has little to no bitterness, really sour and some fruity sweetness. Medium carbonation, fresh palate. Aftertaste is bubbly and sour. A bit too sour even for my taste but interesting and well-made beer.

Pour on tap at Crunchy’s, hazy reddish pour with pinkish head, aroma brought notes of pithy cherry, cherry jam, hints of oak, funky notes, touch of vanilla, slight earthy notes with a touch of dusty basement. Taste was a mix of funk, cherry, vanilla, hints of berry, slight earthy notes with a touch of oak, finishing fairly tart, slightly oaky. Very nice.

Big pink head fades quickly than disappears. Deep murky red, looks like cherry jam. Sour, light funk, big cherry, light astringency, high carbonation, light oak, dry finish.

330ml bottle. Deep red with a foamy pink head. Flavors are cherry, lemon and oak with acetic, medicinal and herbal notes. There’s a bit of a clash between the herbal bitterness and the sour cherries. Medium body, good carbonation, smooth texture.

Bottle - Deep, dark cherry notes with a touch of wood. Dark maroon purple with a light pink head. Nice cherry notes, touch of wood and a light tartness. Nice, but not as complex as I had hoped.

330 ml bottle from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Vibrant, murky pink with a pinkish head. Aroma: Sour cherries, medicinal/cough syrup cherries, moderate Lambic-like funkiness, a sort of grainy malt presence, yeast/wet bread dough, faint wood/vanilla notes (power of suggestion...?), like alcoholic sting. Palate: Medium body, very full, prickly carbonation, a bit creamy. Flav.: Lots of cherries but also a strong malt/wheat presence, rounded flavour, much lighter wild character, yeast/bread dough again, quite different from the nose (interesting), light citrus, some alcohol; dry with reasonable tartness and a bit of bitterness (astringency?) with a quite malty and subdued cherry finish.

Certainly an interesting beer. Doesn’t quite drink like an 8.5% bruiser...

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a deep ruby with some lighter highlights. Aromas of cherry and wood with some funky and cobweb-in-basement-on-a-wooden-post-in-the-corner musty character as well. The tartness from the cherries really jumps out along with a nice light horse blanket funk. A bit of young berry as well and loads of wood. Bone dry on the palate with good crisp carbonation. Wonderful.
