1000th rating! Black bodied, rocky tan head, even after all these years. Quite balanced aroma actually, some mild wooden tones. Milk chocolate, herbal, coffee and roasted. Very well developed taste. Full bodied. Great balance. Wow. (Sample from 33cl bottle, thanks Menno!)

Bottle thanks to Jeffo, 04/23/2012. Pours deep brown, nearly black, thin frothy tan head settles to creamy patina on the surface, great lacing. In the aroma, dark chocolate and cherry licorice, roast coffee, and sweet barrel notes, caramel and toffee, woody spiciness, whiskey. Taste of bitter roast, dark chocolate, fruity sweetness, smokey whiskey finish. Palate silky smooth. Wonderful brew, wish the bottle were bigger.

Bottle, thanks to Leighton. It pours very dark brown, with a decent tan head. The nose is toffee, vanilla ice-cream, oak, varnish, angel delight and coconut. The taste is roasted malt, icing sugar, angel delight, caramel, toffee, vanilla, toasted coconut, cocoa powder, oak, brown sugar and cherry, with a dry, warming finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Flavoursome and well balanced. Tasty stuff.

Bottle at home in London with Paul. Pours oily black with a thick, beige foam head. Strong wood and boozy fruit notes in the nose, some whiskey and hints of vanilla. Big sweet flavor, thick chocolate, some burnt wood, light fire, some earth, vanilla, chocolate cake. some burnt sugar. Full bodied, thick and chewy, with average, smooth carbonation. Mild warm finish, some nice oak and burnt wood, brownies, some dark fruits like sweet raisins, some oily tobacco, faint cherries, cocoa. Excellent. I love this one.

Rating from note. Bottle. Black, tarred beer with a golden thick head and a sweet, caramel-like aroma. Taste is awesome, a fine balance between the bitter, the sweet and the bit of coffee which can be tasted as well. Maybe a bit too bitter in the very end, but almost perfect.

Excellent !
