COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mikkel and Menno is the result of a collaboration between Denmarks best brewery Mikkeller, and Hollands best brewery De Molen. This beer is a weizenbock, it has been brewed at De Molen in the Netherlands and Mikkel contributed to the recipe with a lot of American hops.

This bock have a nice and flashy foam, distinctive flavor of floral hops and so really nothing more. Only slightly malt presses itself on the back of the taste spectrum, but combined it’s too far away to maintain this beers type correctness. I feel sorry when two so otherwise competent, brewers turn their heads together and to the extent misses a classic beer style as the Bock. I am otherwise one of those who likes pretty much a well-brewed bock, but this is not one of them. In a blind tasting I would have guessed that Mikkel & Menno was a reasonably successful attempt an IPA that was neither British or American, but rather Dutch / Danish and it had been a little more interesting!

Bottle. Appearance is light brown with minimal white head. Aroma is sherry, raisins, caramel, and brown sugar. Taste is light bitterness, cardboard, finishes with dry and bitter. Overall, this is a really old bottle (2009 I think) but for its age its held up really well.

Bottle - Toffee and lots of nice sweetness. Much like a barley wine with a clear copper. Sweet, thin and caramel. Light, cardboard oxidized and a mellow toffee sweetness. Very light on the palate.

Bottle @ home. dark copper color and a large thick light beige head. Vinous aroma of dark fruits, notes of banana, caramel, dark bread, wheat. Taste is sweet with a smooth texture and big body. Fruity flavors of red apples, plums, raisins, spices, some banana, orange peel, caramel, wheat, cardboard. Assertive bitter finish with orange peel and hints of cloves lingering. While it has some nice aging properties, and has aged well (and despite the labels BF date of 2015-01), i’d say that being a hoppy weizen bock, it probably peaked 1-2 years ago.

Bottle from Bierkompass!
Pours dark amber colored with high, creamy head. Smell has strong yeast, hops and some perfumey alcohol. Starts strong malty, with lots of sweetish yeast and a perfumey note. Finish has lots of yeast, bitter malt notes as well as some alcoholic notes.

Bottled 17/09/14. I’ve had this a while and it’s aged really well. Pours mahogany coloured with a big whitish head. A good strong wheaty beer with loads of hops. A good sweet edge at first but then late sharp hoppiness takes over. Lovely complexity and superb depth, Ace.
