3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’ place. Thanks Vova? Very dark brown/black with a tan ring. Sour, gherkin aroma but then hot chocolate, carob and then beef jerky. A little sour in the mouth, bitter and deep taste, some ash and then a bit sweet chocolate. Medium-to-full body, slightly carbonated, a little oily texture, some alcohol and dry nuts.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, rated January 31. BBF March, 2014. A real gusher. Came out on it’s own. Huge brown head on top of a pitch black beer. Aroma of alcohol, plums, cocoa, hints of coffee and molasses. Thick mouthfeel with sweet flavour of chocolate and coffee notes along with a slight tart plum flavour. It settles with a roasted bitterness adding to the rather complex flavour, which seems to really come in different layers also making it simple to decipher. Great beer.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
4/29/2009 10:38:50 AM Last bottle from Bierkoning. Tar black body with high rise tan head. Looks yummy. Smells sweet, of chocolate and coffee, with some stout and dark fruits in the nose. Really creamy and delicious. Very well done. Taste of toast, malts, chocolate, caramels, coffee, vanilla - take your pick - it all comes through very well. The ridiculously high ABV isn’t even noticeable. De Molen and Struise, two of my favourite brewers, surprise on the upside, once again. I can drink this all day.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 2010 vintage. Luckily no jellyfication has started in this bottle. Pours a pitch black beer with a massive off white head on top, very creamy and stays on for a long time. Aroma has a lot of roasted malts, sweet sugary stuff, some booze and even some faint hints of coffee after all these years. Flavor is very sweet, with roasted charcoal characters, sweet molasses, licorice, basically everything you want in your imperial stout. Alcohol is very well hidden in the flavors, yet it punches like a mule after drinking. Aftertaste is sweet and roasty, dark fruits and again the coffee is in there. Very faint, but there. A shadow of it’s former self, but still great!
