4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 bierkoning (8109) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - MAR 30, 2009
UPDATED: APR 23, 2010 Tap @ De Molen. Big head. Almost pitch black. Very intense creamy black chocolate aroma and flavor. Dried fruit, some oak. Hint of butter. Licorice and coffee notes. Very full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Intense bitterness, but totally embodied in the beer. Very well balanced. Can’t wait for the bottled version.
Bottle @ UDRM, Oirschot. Ash, chocolate and dried fruit in the aroma. Dark chocolate, ash and tobacco in the flavor. Malty yet fairly dry. Quite a complex beer.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 henrikb (1258) - Aarhus, DENMARK - MAR 21, 2009
Draft - Totally black body with a creamy beige head that doesn’t last forever; Very nice soft dark roasted nose, lots of depth with fresh sharp hop stepping out; Soft textured soft carbonated body, pleasant and nice but not making enough noise; Roast grows in finish and quite a bit of hop bitterness to, very dark aromas. Very good very well put together mix, somehow it should be a little messy to become really interesting.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAR 19, 2009
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2009 On tap at the Alvinne Pre ZBF 09 event. Black colour. First word that hits me in lovely. Bourbon? Lovely black roasted malt. Some good hops. Rather gorgeous. Just so lovely, so drinkable even with a gingerish spicey heat on the finish. 4.3/5.
Re-rate bottle from LCRBM5. Black bubbly tan head. Lovely choc and coffee aroma. Bit of creamyness on aroma, but mostly real ground coffee and choc. De Molen make some fantanstic dark beers and Struise make some of my favourite beers period. So can they make a beer together? Oh yes they can. Having had a fair number of impy stouts now, this is one of the best. It’s like having ground coffee and flaked dark belgian chocolate in a glass. Really very good indeed.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 MiP (11783) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - MAR 15, 2009
Draught at Alvinne pre-ZBF09. Good roasted aroma, some yeast. Black colour. Small frothy but OK stable brown head. Very flavourful, starts off vinous, then turns roasted with plenty of sweet liquorice. The finish is quite yeasty as well. On the sweet side, but nice.
4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 joes (37) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - MAR 10, 2009
My 2500th rating (but 3rd entry on RB). Draught @ the pre-ZBF party, presented by Menno himself. Black with a small but firm brown head. Aroma’s of sweet coffee, chocolate and even some vanille and fruits in the background. Firm body, almost vicious, with the roasted malts (coffee and chocolate again) in the flavour. A nice bitter takes over more and more at the end. Well balanced. Another great beer from the Molen, worth my 2500th rating.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 10, 2009
Draught at Pre ZBF, Alvinne, 06-03-09 Pours very dark brown with a tan coloured head. The aroma is a mixture of coffee, dark sugars and liquorice. Plenty of roasted flavours zip around the mouth, coffee and mollasses present themselves, there is a solid bitterness and the alcohol is very well hidden in this beer. I really like this, though not quite as much as the Hell and Damnation. A7 A4 F7 P4 OV16 3.8
4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Ober (2260) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - MAR 9, 2009
Draught @ Pre-ZBF Alvinne. A black colored beer, with a small thick beige head. The aroma of dark malts, some smoke, coffe, chocolate, with some liquorice juice. The taste of smoked malts, dry bitter chocolate, some coffee and wood. Great combination. The aftertaste is bitter with notes of chocolate.
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 fata2683 (2103) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAR 8, 2009
on draft at the Pre-ZBF pours black with a tall dark tan head. Aroma is out of this world. Dark malt, coffee and a bakers chocolate nose that is very powerfull. Flavors are dark malt, liqorice and chocolate with a mild earth wood flavor in the background. I was a fan of the two beers already, but I really do believe the mix brings the earthyness of the BA and the dark malt and roastyness of the HandD and creates a great brew that I can’t wait to try bottle conditioned.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 bonfunck (149) - Waasmunster, BELGIUM - MAR 8, 2009
Draught at Pré Zythos at Alvinne, it is a very dark beer with heavy taste, its almost impossible to taste a beer objective short after drinking a black damnation, very roasted aroma and nose
