4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 ajbitt (47) - , USA - JUL 28, 2010
I haven’t rated a beer in a while and this particular brew inspired me to do so - mainly because there seems to be a fair amount of disparity in feedback. Either a) the company had an issue with quality control prior to shipping and consumption, or b) a lot of amateurs drank this beer and didn’t have the words to properly describe it. I’ll keep it simple. This is one of the better stouts I’ve ever had. It starts with a nice sharp crisp carbonation after a pleasant nose of slight chocolate, roasted dark carmelized malts with slight nuttiness, but the heat of the alcohol is noticeable. The crispness of the carbonation quickly fades leaving the palate with a toasted marshmallow, slightly sweet, perhaps vanilla and almond. There may be a bit of a sours finish (Monk’s Cafe type of slight rotten cherry) but really not that powerful. I would dismiss the claims of hoppiness and all descriptives associated with hops. Great stout that may actually may be an exceptional Porter.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 coldbrewky (1158) - Saugerties, New York, USA - MAY 8, 2012
Bottle on my birthday. Shared with friends. Nose of caramel and wet leaves. thinner tan head on dark black shiny volume. Carbonation can barely be seen. Body is slick and on the thinner side for an Impy. Finish is oak, black patent tartness shrouded in just enough sugars as to make it slightly sour.

Bottle bought at the De Molen beer shop in Bodegraven. This beer sprayed from the bottle and covered my kitchen sink. I did how ever manage to save some in a glass. Chocolaty and lightly sourish smell. High amount of carbonation. Chocolaty malty taste, some yeast and alcoholic aftertaste.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 PhillyCraft (608) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 8, 2012
Bottle. Split with Boston and Simon. Pour is dark, deep, brown with huge three finger creamy head. Lacing retention is always great with De Molen... multiple rings around the glass. Aromas is so floral and hoppy for a 9.99% alc stout. Mostly notes of espresso, chocolate, flowers. Taste is belgian quad flavors with honey mead, bread, anise, cocoa powder, and belgian yeast. Amazing beer that combined a complex belgian strong with a rich creamy stout. Finishes very smooth with barely any detectable booze for the amount of alcohol. Prefer this out of the bottle compared to the draft I had New Years day at Monks.
