Bottle poured a hazy orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of carmel, earthiness, orange zest and light pine. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, orange zest and a hint of pine with a crisp dry lightly bitter lingering earthy finish.

Pours a hazy burnt orange color with a two finger off white head. Head dissipates slowly and leaves a blanket of lacing. Lots of carbonation coming off the glass. Smells of tons of grapefruit, blood oranges, floral, grape, raspberries? A wine-like smell. Little bit of breadiness and carmel coming through after the initial bitter fruits smell. A musty, earthy smell as well. This beer is almost a year old and the amarillo hop presence on the nose has still not gone away. Taste starts with a moderate hop presence that brings grapefruit, orange, grape, maybe some passionfruit. Leaves you wanting more on the front. Then get a nice dose of breadiness along with some carmel sweetness from the malts. Then comes back with more grapefruit, grape, orange, grass. Decent bitterness, but almost get a watered down sensation on the finish, as well as some booze. Get a good amount of sweetness on the finish as well. Low full body with a sticky and creamy mouthfeel. There is something definitely missing here. The age unfortunately showed and took away from the hop bite. Some IPA’s from overseas can really be great, but the high price combined with the lack of freshness is really starting to push me away. A fresher bottle could change my mind, but there is just something lacking here.

The foam goes away after a while. Smell and taste of flowers, maybe some pine and honey. Goes down easily and asks for more. But be careful, it’s a sneaky one concerning the alcohol. Recommended.

Aroma has lots of exotic fruits, some caramel and floral notes. Flavour has caramel, fruity hops, some biscuits and hints of grass. Too sweet, but good anyway.

bottle - Pours very hazy orange with a huge off white head. It gives off very gassy aroma that takes a long time to dissipate and lends a bandage like character to the flavor. Over carbonation I guess. Once it finally settles down there’s a good resin and citrus hops flavor with substantial bitterness, a medium to full body, and a lingering bitter finish. Good. I would rate it higher if it weren’t for the off smell and flavor that lasted quite some time after the initial pour.

hackobock (2027) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JAN 12, 2013
1 year old bottle at Monk’s Café, Sveavägen. Pours clear amber with a dense white head. It has aged well, the pungent hop aroma expected from a double IPA has turned into a sweet dried fruit aroma, raisins, figs, plum, citrus, resin, malts dominates. Taste is sweet dried fruits up front and a medium finishing bitterness that is a bit too sharp based on the taste, had it been fresh the bitterness and hoppy taste would have been more balanced but it’s still a very nice beer.

Bottle from realale.com shop on Richmond Road, Twickenham. A hazy orange/amber coloured pour with a healthy fluffy off white head on top. Rich tropical fruit aroma. Tastes incredibly rich, quite sweet, tropical fruit, oranges and lemons, slightly tart with some bitterness. Really like the Amarillo hop. Great stuff.
