3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 mile (1221) - Helsinki, FINLAND - NOV 9, 2011
Bottle. Dark golden, hazy, very small and fully diminishing head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, tropical fruitiness and some caramel, lots of grapefruit and citrus hoppyness. Body is medium to full and sweetish flavor, some tropical fruitiness, caramel, grapefruit and piney hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, some caramel and tropical fruitiness, lots of grapefruit and piney hoppyness which gets bit sharp/soapy, light alcohol. Really nice, but not great DIPA. Flavor is bit too sweet and has too much caramel for my taste - in the finish hoppyness is bit sharp.

75 cl. bottle @ Delirium Hoppy Loft – my friend had to quit after the first glass & I finished the rest of the bottle \ Pretty sure that this is only a couple of months old but I cannot be entirely sure because I have no idea as to how much time I need to deduct from the best before date \ Label is unfortunately not one of their minimalist ones which they seem to keep for their Imperial Stouts & anything sold only in 18 cl. bottles \ Cannot stop trying new De Molen beers, their work is insanely out there and nothing like anything else anyone makes out there to the best of my knowledge \ Half of the time, I declare them insane for making them, sometimes they disappoint but when they are good they are incredible \ Hazy, bright orange with a slight copper hue, head looks almost like something which you would expect to find on a lambic and eventually vanished after not too long \ The smell on this immediately betrays what this is, this is pure, ultra concentrated hop, this is simply liquid, condensed Amarillo hop, smell is very, very bitter grapefruit mixed in with very bitter pine & bitterest tangerine peels ever encountered \ Taste is bitter hop blast at first, enjoyable harsh bitter grapefruit which goes into the extreme to the point that it almost becomes herbal, very bitter herbal actually, touch of floral even, once your tongue becomes numb or you simply get used to it, it starts becoming fruity with apricot, peaches, lemons, you start getting a sweet malt-base buried underneath all the pure bitterness & a hint of yeast \ Medium carbonation, body is a bit like I would imagine hop oil to be but almost something sticky in there as well \ This is a pretty amazing pure hop experience, keep up the good work Molen

An excellent blend of sweetness and bitterness. The grapefruit/orange aroma comes off very strong but isn’t overwhelming and compliments its orange/gold appearance. Tried at the Troosts in Amsterdam in Sept, 2011.

33cl bottle from DeMolen beer store. Bottled on 9/5/2011, shows different hop profile, Sladeck, Saaz and Amarillo.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 phredrik (707) - Aalborg, DENMARK - OCT 4, 2011
Bottled 6/9/2011, bought at De Molen store. Clear amber orange with virtually no head. Aroma is full of soft amarillo notes, very sweet orange and tangerine, ripe pineapple, sweet mango, light caramel malt notes. Very pleasant, cause the hops are not all in your face with all types of fruits, both sweet, sour and exotic, just very focused in the hop profile. Taste is also very focused, very mellow and very pleasant. The hops are dominating, still with these ripe pineapple, mango and orangey tangerine fruits, a very pleasant bitterness, no way near as fierce as it gets in other American style DIPA’s, and the malt profile also stands out as a nice compliment to the hops with bread crust and caramel notes, a slight hint of doughy yeast notes and a slight zing of alcohol in the finish. The carbonation is really soft in this one, which I really like, and it makes the mouthfeel very nice. One of the most easily drinkable and most balanced DIPAs I’ve had. Very focused, doesn’t get overdone in any way, just plain nice.
