Bottle from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. Clear dark reddish brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit and wood. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted moderate bitter finish with warming alcohol. Smooth and soft. 190513

Bottled. Thanks veliemboys. Pours a murky amber colour without a head. Aroma is extremely sweet with strong fruitcake notes, butter, bourbon and wood. Flavour of very, very sweet caramel notes, bourbon, fruitcake, syrup, wood, overly ripe fruitiness and figs. Full bodied and soft carbonation. Long, warming, very sweet finish. Complex. But an imperial stout? No way in hell, this is a barleywine. I wonder if it’s possible to get diabetes by drinking a bottle of this. I don’t care, it’s good.

33 cl bottle @ home. Bottled 28.01.2013
Flat palate, no CO2. Aroma has sweet whiskey tones, oaty malt and chocolate. Also hints of peat and smoke. Flavour is rather sweet with oaty malt, chocolate and some syrupy tones. Whiskey and alcohol are also present. The sweetness here reminds me of the malty sweet tones of doppelbocks.

33 cl bottle. Bottled on 28.01.2013.
Pours dark red color with no head. Lots of syrup and caramel on the nose, dark roasted malts, some chocolate and mild cocoa notes too. Very sweet buttery bourbon flavor, some malts, caramel, maple syrup and molasses also. Oily thick palate. Not your typical IS, feels more like a Barley Wine, extremely sweet.

330ml bottle from De Molen Webshop

Bottled on Jan 28th 2013 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a tiny bubbly head. Aroma of syrup, bourbon, roastiness, dark chocolate, vanilla and butter. Taste is sweet, syrupy and bourbony with loads of butter, bread malts, slight roastiness and heavy amounts of vanilla. Finish is sweet, syrupy and bourbony with slight roastiness and slick toffee notes. Quite sweet and syrupy, feels more like a barley wine than an imperial stout.

330 ml bottle. Bottled on Jan 28th 2013. From some webshop.
Dark reddish brown colour with a tiny off-white ring. Sweetness, whiskey sweetness, mild peat, dark fruits, mild berry tartness and liquorice dryness in the aroma. Closer to a Barley Wine than a Imperial Stout. The flavour is super sweet... there’s all kind of sweetness... whiskey sweetness, malty sweetness, sugary sweetness and fruity sweetness. After all the sweetness there’s also some malty, dark fruity and alcohol notes. Whiskey is also quite evident. Not bad at all. Tasty. Maybe a tad too sweet to be really enjoyable. Desert.

(De Molen Bar & Boos) Bottle 330 ml at home, filled to the top. Poured into a small snifter, ABV 10.6% Dark brown in colour, no head formed except some bi bubbles, tan in colour, lasting for quite long on the surface actually. Minimal lacing left behind. Aroma of vanilla, wood, alcohol, glue, blackberries, hints of smoke, dark fruits. Taste of bourbon, roasted malts, liquorice, again hints of smoke, fruity notes of dark fruits, mostly prunes, figs, the alcohol slightly notable, a bit of vanilla. A bit weak on the body, medium thin I’d say, good carbonation for the style. Nice imp.

Deep black with ruby highlights and a decent beige head. Aroma is caramel, lightly roasted malts, liquorice, cola, fig, hint of smoke and leather, blackcurrant. Creamy mouthfeel, full bodied, sweet and roasty on the palate with a warming, slightly woody finish. Taste is dates, raisins, figs, caramel, vanilla, subtle hints of wood and smooth bourbon. Absolutely delicious

Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon, oak, sweet vanilla, berries, brown sugar, some chocolate. Flavour is quite sweet, syrupy and vanilla. This is a Barleywine. Being more of a fan of Imperial Stouts than Barleywines, I was a little disappointed with this one.
