Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2010. Pours a pitch black beer with a chocolate beer. The aroma is licorice, coffee, malt, roasted and chocolate. The flavor follows the nose closely. The palate is smooth, rounded, sweetness and roasted. Overall a fantastic beer with a good balance and good complexity. [Rating #1600]

On tap at Schouskjelleren. A black one, with a dense, tan head. Lots of dark aromas and flavors, some booze. Smooth, full-bodied and warming. Some vanilla. Roasted malts, coffee and dried fruits, with a touch of licorice. Lasting finish, really lasting. A wonderful sipper. 111014

Bottle: Tiny bottle with a tiny label, certainly not a tiny beer! Dark brown black pour with a dark ruby shine, a medium tan brown head, which changes with regular speed into a small tan brown lacing on top of a pitch black beer. Yummi! The aroma is mostly dominated by a subtle dark chocolate smell with mocha and coffee tones as well as some vanilla, cream, toffee, light caramel and oaky bourbon tones. The flavour has fine notes of earth, good bitter, dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee beans, chocolate coffee bean candy, spicy coffee roast, light mocha and some fine hop and dark chocolate bitterness. Delicious! Aftertaste is dark chocolate coffee bean candy with herbs like bitter choco grass and hop tones. Lightly dry mouthfeel in the aftertaste. Low carbo, soft creamy/oily mouthfeel, full body and a creamy oily texture. Another delicious imperial stout from De Molen, whether you taste the rareness or not!

On tap@schouskjelleren 14. oct. 11. Pitch black body with a moderate sized but dense, brown head. Really good locking. Strong and rich aroma of dark malt, coffee, dark fruit, liquorices and warming alcohol. Strong flavor of dark malt, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, dry fruit and warming alcohol. Quite sweet and bitter, but in perfect balance with alcohol and all other flavors. Full body and aftertaste that lasts forever. An amazing beer with strong flavors, much alcohol and still surprisingly easy to drink.

18 cl bottle at the Farmer’s Cabinet De Molen dinner served with Slightly Pickled Halibut. Deep black brown with a tan head. Nose is dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and a whisper of cognac. Creamy medium to full body with soft but zesty carb. Taste is dark chocolate, brandy, caramel and vanilla finishing slightly bitter. Superb blending elevates this to extraordinary levels.

Thanks to Holy for sharing. Black pour, good head. Huge aroma of chocolate and coffee, almost like chocolate brownies before baking. Flavor has that plus a touch of scotch, though not as big the aroma. Flavor lingers on the tongue a while. Very nice.

Thanks to vertical bacon strips for this. Pours pitch black with a dark tan, airy cap. Smells like molasses/licorice and roasty, caramel malt. Cherry/plum scents. The taste is cherries/plums. Licorice. Woody. Coffee. Vanilla. One of the better impy stouts I’ve had lately.

Nip bottle. Poured very deep brown with a nice, dense dark tan head. The aroma picked up sweeter, milkier chocolates and vanilla over a rich layer of burnt coffee and dark chocolate.. lots of oak in there too.. brighter notes around.. came back to some delicious-smelling malts on the back of the nose. The flavor opened with tart oak and coffee beans, with mostly burnt coffee and ashy black patent malts beneath.. peppery alcohol and dry, toasted oak jumped in on the back-end.. grainy, bitter, and too roasty on the long, scratchy finish. Heavy-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. alcohol was about where it needed to be considering the ABV.. very good overall, but it was just a little too burnt and too roasty.
