4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Savvy1982 (1441) - Lethbridge, - MAR 23, 2011
Bottle, thanks to Dak. Sampled at the 2011 RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours opaque black, thin tan head, soft lacing. Nose is ash, dark fruit, cocoa, licorice, tar; Flavours of fennel seeds, charred bread, sweet molasses, very tarry and smoky. This stood out to me after the tasting, which considering the company it was keeping, is quite something.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Decent lacing. Aroma is coffee, a bit of vanilla, roasted, sweet dark fruits notes. Liquorice deep down. The dark fruits are on the verge of being cloying, but the coffee note overshadows it. Flavour is sweet, dark fruits, roasted, and with a tart note like buttermilk. Alcohol bite. Bitter, roasted, fruity finish with a lingering alcohol burn, and a longer lingering coffee note. Overall very nice. 17.02.12.

75 cl bottle at tasting, bought at Ølbutikken a couple of years ago. Black with a nice khaki head, nice retention. Aroma has lots of coffee, cappuccino, sweet liquorice, molasses, hard roasted malts, burned wood, ashy and tarry, dark chocolate, dark syrup, oaky notes and hints of spirits and shit, probably some kind of whisky/bourbon. Very complex. Taste is very roasted, coffee, creamy chocolate, alcohol notes, burned caramel, tar, burned wood, some kind of barrel, probably bourbon, oaky, ashy and roasted. I fucken mind this beer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Damico (1399) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 9, 2012
Brought home from Europe in ’10. It pours dark black with a big creamy mocha head. The aroma is sweet roasted malts, faded from when I first had it last March, ’11. The flavor is similar, still fantastic for an imperial stout, but faded a bit. There are big roasted and sweet malty notes on a creamy smooth body. Not a punch in the face like the BA American Impy Stouts, but delicious overall.

bottle from dak at rbwg 3/5/11.
dark brown with a fairly large tan head.
a+f= ash, charred wood, toasted nuttiness akin to coffee, chocolate, licorice, strange vegetals and even stranger yeast. it is super roasty throughout and has a odd sourness on the finish. weird but tasty.
thinner than expected... especially at 13%. 7/4/7/3/16

Huge thanks to travlr and GT2 for this incredibly rare bottle! Poured a deep deep brown, though interestingly not black. Nose holds big lactic cream, roasty acidity, and light chocolate, though as it warmed a wonderful chocolate mousse and truffle component shone through to bring this beer’s credentials considerably higher. The flavor is magnificent; huge rich chocolate, along with an ashen char presence. Huge thick and wonderful mouthfeel that hides the 13% impeccably. Quite delightful.
