"little baby bottle...dark fruit, char, licorice. a little off note (the bordeaux?) in the aftertaste, but otherwise a fairly typical impy for the netherlands...which is a good thing. smooth bodied and tasty."

Bottle #191 shared with Keith, Al, and Simon. Pours brownish black wth light cafe head, light lacing. Aromas are whiskey, oak, molasses, French vino, cognac and all sorts of richness. Flavor is brown sugar, oak, caramel brittle, red wine, and roast. Another amazing nip from De molen, thanks for the I’m person trade kamiel.

Deep black colour, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, autumn leafs, leather, somewhat metallic, liquorice root, drop and hints of red wine. Light sweet roasted malts flavour, liquorice, notes of coffee, old books, somewhat metallic. Bitter finish, sweet coffee, bourbon, liquorice root, woody notes. Lingering vinous tones. Nice enough, but seems a bit past it’s prime.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2013 18cl bottle at home. 3 year old bottle. Shared with Mathieu87. Appearance: not really pitch black like other Imperial Stouts, but nice black appearance, rather unstable mocha head. Nose: alcohol comes in popping immediately, lots of chocolate, lots of wood, little tart, red fruits, some vanilla, the alcohol presumably bourbon. Taste: bourbon is clear now, chocolate, rather sugary, somewhat sticky all around your mouth, some red fruits noticeable, alcohol warming feeling when drinking, even after a few minutes in your mouth! Amazing beer, I hope they remake it in time!

Bottle. Dark brown with a small good lacing beige head. Aroma is vinous, vanilla, toffee, light cheese, butter, light coffee, cocoa, dark roasted malt. The barrel notes are definitely present but well balanced and complements each other. Taste is near heavy sweet and medium bitter. Medium body, oily/syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Soft sweet finish with a bit of roasted malt and warming alcohol.

Bottle. Pours dark red brown with a almost no head. Aroma is roasted malt, bourbon, chocolate, oak, coconut, red berries, vanilla. The barrel influence is noticeable but nicely balanced. Taste is near heavy sweet, medium bitter with a delicious tart note. Body is medium+, texture is thick oily, carbonation is soft. Finishes sweet, roasted and plainly delicious. Not overpowering in any way.

180ml bottle (Belgobaren, Stockholm) - freebie from the owner of the whole Monks Cafe chain - wow thanks! (8:4+:8:4+:16+=4.0+++)
Sweet vanilla and chocolate cakey aroma, a touch of alcohol in places. Black, brief head. Smooth palate, almost slick, but luscious. Gentle tingle of burntness and hops crispens it up. Chocolatey cakey body, a little sweet. Creamy butter adds to the chocolate cake in the late finish. A super-mellow rich sipper. World class.

sweet & dark, roasted aroma. Vanilla, smooth, light body. Meno just rocks the barrel stouts. he knows they don’t have to scream booziness.
