#1858, bottled Dec 16 2009. Looks black, very much like any stout. Head is smallish. Smell is sweet and somehow brings alkaloids to my mind. Taste is bitter, sour and malty. I might be drinking this beer too cold. Some of the herb aromas are perhaps weaker thy could be. Call me crazy but just like this would be really good stout that only misses smoky flavor. Due the difficulty to get and not being super extra ordinary this beer is most likely overall over rated.

Bottle: #1569/2040 Small brown foamy head, changes quick into brown lacing. Deep dark brown to black color. Light smell of coffee, roasted malts, lighter smell and hints of liquorice, chocolate, vanilla and very light hints of coconut and wood. Taste is a creamy mouthfeel mix of coffee and roasted malts. Lighter hints of chocolate, liquorice and spices. Lovely bitter and dry grassy aftertaste. Like an average (BA) impy.

(Bottled, #999) Warming and smooth, roasty, coffee-licoricey impy with only a tiny vegetably note at first. Some tart red-wineous notes, too. Sweetish, a bit sticky. Not burned, not alcoholic - just well done and delicious! 6548

Bottle @ home. The aroma has chocolate, liquorice, chocolate and vanilla, some booze. Black coloured beer with a thin, beige-brown head. The taste is light bitter and sweet. There is chocolate, oak, red wine and fruitiness, some liquorice. Dry finish Not as powerfull as othe Molen imperial stouts. Nicely balanced and smooth.

Small nice bottle - stamped as nr 181. One of the few bottles that are not called "something & something" that tends to be De Molens trade mark. Im for sure a fan of aging beers in red wine barrels. The pour is black as promised with a firm good looking medium brown head with a frothy attitude. It stays there. Real good looking beer. The nose is really nice. Its perfectly balanced between the bitter and sweet notes from the roasted malts, some cacao and the sour woodyness from the barrels. The taste is somehow different. It differs between a profound sweetness and a sourness from where you can sense the red wine. The finish is long and sweet and is where the alcohol touch is reporting it selves. The vanilla sweetness ios clear but not over whelming. Medium palate with a creamy feeling. Nice one.
