4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle traded to me by kamiel, thanks dude, tried with Al, pours deep black with light off white head, accompanied by spotty and light lacing. Aromas of the most rich scotch whiskey smelling barrel ever, roast, licorice, dark fruit, molasses, flavor is coffee grounds, chocolate, fudge mix, tobacco. Everything that is good about stouts in the winter time is encompassed in this Dutch brew. Stickiness is medium with the same for the body. Warming. Cheers Meno.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. 12.0%. Bottled June 13 2010. Bottle no. 1074. Pours almost black with a thin dark tan head. Somewhat tart aroma, and fruity in a cereal kind of way, without being actual cereals, at first. As it warms, the fruity note turn more toward dark fruits, and a candy-like touch appears. Flavour is sweetish and mildly tart, with some dark fruits, but not very distinct. Roasted and dark fruit finish. Almost sugary note. Light alcohol burn, but nowhere near the high %; well-balanced. Lingering grassy note. Overall okay, but the tart notes interrupt, and both aroma and flavour could be more distinct. 15.12.13.

bottle ( 18 cl ) 437/ 1440 , thanx to kermis !
brewed 16-12-2009 , bottled 13 - 05 -2010 . back then i didnt even drink craftbeer lol :p
pours very dark, near black. good foam ( brown) that fades , but leaves a good layer .
smell is quite heavy, roasted malts, bitter.
soft, sharp carbo. waaw ! best porter i had for sure. why not call this a imperial stout ?
a rather light mouthfeel, but still very nice. carbo is low, but sharp. just the way it should be !
bitter, roasted malts. coffee, redicolously drinkable? 12,5 ABV ? this drinks away like a lager.
there’s some ’ hidden ’bitterness in this, also get bread notes ( grains?? ) very sweet. leaves a sticky backfeeling, and a very , vey low alcohol warmth . but its there . has notes of coffee as wel.
very complex, much is going on in there, yet its so easy to drink..
again, another ’old’ de molen beer that is redicolously awsome. is it that they get so much better with age? or is has de molen realy got so much worse?

The beer is dark brown and sports a thin, beige head. The beer appears viscous, leaving a sheet of oily lacing on the walls of the snifter.
The aroma offers oak, roast, tannins, dark fruit, malt, booze.
The flavor follows the aroma to a tee. Lots of dark fruit character, which, in most cases, I do not care for, finding it to be a deterrent. However, this beer has a lot of nice things happening, all of which compliment one another.
Low carbonation, thick and viscous, rich. A warming finish but alcohol presence is unobtrusive.
Overall, a very tasty beer. I would enjoy having this again. Recommended.

180ml bottle (Belgobaren, Stockholm) Bottle 1316 (7:4+:8:5:16+=4.0++)
I’ll start with the appearance, as that’s easy to describe - black black. It was hard to get a head from pouring, but on swirling one rose up. Sharp dark berry aroma, black forest gateau. Less sharpness in the taste, in fact it’s quite mellow. A rich roast, the burntness is high, but not astringent. Lovely and smooth in the palate, gentle carbonation crispens and cuts through the sugars. Lovely vapours in the mouth, chocolate and coffee roastiness, but also vanilla dna sweet heavy esters too. Rich roasty body, so full. A definite "wow!" in the mouth and early finish. Succulent and delicious. No sign of 12%. We put this to one side, and drank the Struise Black Jack, so that we could come back to finish with this one as it was so much better. When we came back to it, Anna could detect spearmint, and I could detect peanuts.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nip bottle.. bottled on 5/13/10, #309. Poured medium-viscosity, deeper black with some swirls of dark beige sticking around. The aroma was decadent, with smoky whiskey and vanilla laced through rich chocolates.. brighter on the back of the nose, with oaky astringency and black pepper present.. some cocoa back there too. The flavor found sharp oak and whiskey notes throughout.. blended chocolates and vanilla plus lesser roasty black malts at the core.. finished with whiskey warmth and aftertaste.. surprisingly rough considering the smooth nose. Medium-ish bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. it tried to be smooth across the middle, but the aforementioned sharpness got in the way. Not bad, but not quite what I was hoping for.
