3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cybercat (2452) - Georgia, USA - APR 18, 2013
Pours a deep, barely translucent cola brown with a thin tan head that doesn’t hang around too long. Robust aroma has nutty, smoky, caramel, coffee and roast malt notes, almost more like a stout or porter. Flavor has a decided overtone of smoky barbecue with roast malt, burnt coffee, nutty and subtle hoppy notes as well. Texture is firm and smooth, though fizz leaves a bit to be desired. No need for blood, sweat or tears - just drink it.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 bartlebier (460) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - APR 7, 2013
33cl bottle, Geers. - Additional label info: "pale, chocolate, smoked, cara, whisky and roasted barley malts, wheat, sladek (bitter) and sladek (late), yeast (topfermenting)."
De Molen’s labels, both in layout and info included, are a fetishist’s dream - but what does a partially inclined fetishist do when the beer behind the label is not among his favourites, despite being a smoked & stout aficionado? This stout is ideally creamy and unctuous, but also has too much going on at once for its own good: smoked saltiness, the nasal acidity of cold filter coffee, herbal Czech hop (sladek anyone?) and chocolate roasted dryness. Any 3/5 of these makes a great combination, but especially the combination of tang and acidity is a bit of turnoff to my palate.

Poured a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of roast malt, mildly phenolic. Heavy, creamy body, noy so much smokeyness as the nose indicated, flavour of bitter coffee and caramel with a lingering bitter finish.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Swaroga (790) - Brussels, BELGIUM - MAR 21, 2013
33cl bottle. Dark brown with huge tanned head. Nose : strong fruity notes with smoke. Herbal, chocolate and toffee. Sip : thick body with creamy texture, low carbonation. Sweet malts are quickly covered by spiky sourness reminding a lambic. It goes more complex with overall smoky and fruity background. Well balanced, finishes with sour bitterness from strong coffee. Really nice discovery.
