Aroma of both german and scottish smoke malt. The flavour is similar. Good balance. A little over carbonated.

Pours black. Smokey bonfire aroma. Some sweetness in the nose. Roasted malts. Taste: lots of bonfire smoke. Some weird sour note going one. Little sweetness. Some bitter notes. Light bodied. Would have liked the beer a bit more when it had a little more sweetness and bigger body. Ok stuff.

Bottle from DuffMan, thanks! Almost completely black brown pour with brown head. Aroma is quite smoky, lots of peated malt, light licorice, iodine, islay scotch smokiness. Taste is sweet, strong saline impression, very umami, light soy, strong smokiness. Palate is med-full bodied with good carbonation. Nice stuff, better than I expected.

Blut und schweiß hat das bier wirklich aus mir getrieben bei all dem Rauch und dem Leder, die mir entgegengekommen sind. Durch die magere Perlung ist bier zudem laff und wird umso untrinkbarer.

Bottle from Rudat in Dortmund. The beer has got a deep black colour with a small steady head and smooth body. Aroma of leather, woods and smoke. Taste of leather, handbag, smoke, peat and roasted leather. Leathery finish. Too much leather for me.

In short: smoked torrefact coffee beer. Aroma: wood smoke, torrefact coffee and dark chocolate. Apperance: dark brown/black with cream foam. Taste: light bitter. Palate: lasting smoked sensation, smooth feeling and liquorice finish.

Dark brown to black colored, moderate to small tan head, not very lasting. Aroma is strong smoke, bacon, some roasted and burnt notes and low chocolate. Taste is moderate+ sweet caramel-brown sugar, bit licorice, chocolate, strong roasted-burnt and smoked notes with smoked bacon. Dry roasted finish. Some alcohol warmth. Full bodied, low carbonation, thick and creamy. A brew fit for a meal!

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 32B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 06/12/13. AROMA: predominant smoked aroma with notes of burnt rubber. very faint dark chocolate notes. APPEARANCE: dark color with ruby highlights. very thin light brown head with poor retention. TASTE: nice blend of burnt wood, smoke, some coffee and an overall semi-sweet background. low bitterness with an almost sweet finish. PALATE: medium-low body with low carbonation. OVERALL: a smoked stout with more complex and balanced flavour than the aroma, and with very low carbonation.

keg at le fleur du malt, Lyon
deep cacao brown with fluffy dark beige head. fairly smokey ashen bonfire notes on nose. quite astringent smokiness at first with slightly metallic meaty notes. As more is consumed the flavours round out better with some tcp, bacon, ash, leather and toasted barley. It doesn’t quite have the body of the fantastic rauchbiers and thus feels a little uncomplex. Carbonation also on the low side. interesting rather than exciting or pleasurable.
