4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled Feb 2012 at 15.2%. Hazy dark orange / red, slightly sparkling, a small foamy white head atop. Aroma is potent - undiluted Ribena initially, tamarind?, caramel, apple juice, a touch oxidised. Body is medium, foamy, low carbonation, tacky with all the sugar. Taste is rounded caramel. Orange liquer. Sweet and fruity yet sour and earthy. Slight cider dimension. Champagne. Lovely balance to the flavours and no alcohol coming through at all. Oversweet though.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Virtually no head and minimal carbonation. Dark brown/red in color with a lot of sweet and fruity flavours. A bitter aftertaste reminiscent of a grapefruit early in the morning.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ home. Hazy orange red with no head to speak of and occasional bubbles escaping the liquid just after the pour. Really sweet fruity aroma with lots of caramel, toffee, sweets, dried fruits and orange, apple, apricot, almonds, lemon and butterscotch. Alcahols are naturally there but well integrated considering the ABV. Taste is sweet of caramel, syrup, raisins, orange and apple. Some butterscotch and almonds. Alcahols are more prominent in the taste especially in the aftertaste, contributing to a sticking feeling along with a grape bitterness. Full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel, almonst no carbonation.

Duft: karamel. saft, jordbær. maltsødme, meget frugtig.
Smag: meget kraftig karamel smag, eftersmagen er varm og en smule sprittet til sidst, der er også en smag af karamel frugt,

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Strong beer, alcohol is present. Sweet, fruity flavors. Orange sticks out the most. A big beer that’s too big for the bottle.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Body is reddish brown, no head at all. Very sweet aroma. Syrup, sweets and bubblegum. Nice soft mouthfeel, only a little bit of carbonation. Taste starts as sweet like syrup, then you get a hit of bitterness with the aftertaste. This one’s a really nice barley wine. Easy to drink, interesting taste, very good.

On tap @ La Capsule, Lille - FR. Color: deep brown beer with small carbonation and heavy ivory brown head. Smell: caramel, hoppy, herbal grassy nose. Taste: really sweet on mouth, you feel a caramel explosion. A little beet creamy. Great complexity of malt with a good balance of hops. Aftertaste: small alcohol taste caramel and malt.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
11.2oz bottle, purchased from Party Source a while back. Shared with b3shine. Bottled on 07/02/2012. Clear orange amber color. Last pour is pretty hazy. Thin off-white head. Dots and ropes of lace. Dried orange, tangerine, apricot in the nose. Candy sugar. Moderate to bigger sweet, light bitter. Good hoppy aromatics. Less of an alcohol burn than expected, less cloying sweet than expected. Some white grape desert wine type notes, yeah. Smooth, kind of creamy texture. A little more cloying sweet and biting in the final, yeasty pour, but still impressive in how well that this hides the alcohol overall, and a good bright surprisingly citrusy flavor.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle to snifter (shared by DrSilverworm). Looks good; a mostly transparent burnt orange with thin white lacing and soft carbonation. Smells candied with notes of orange and apricot. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Good beer; not sure I’d classify it as a Barleywine though (although I’m not sure what I’d classify it as; maybe a Wheat Wine?).
