There’s plenty of fruit like orange, tangerine and sweet apples. It’s powerful and full bodied but still easy going. Although the name would suggest otherwise, it’s our favourite amongst the female clientele yet also highly appreciated by the other sex. Well hopped as always, but the obvious alcohol and the massive malt and fruit character restrict the hops to the background, only to reveal itself in the finish. Full bodied, notes of champagne. Champagne mousse after pouring in the glass. Grapes and a hint of mandarin curacao in the aroma, together with a hint of vin mousseux. Malty sweet flavor, immensely full bodied, with mandarine curacao and vinous notes. Thick mouthfeel, just a touch of yeast in the aftertaste. Huge beer.

Dried fruits, sweet aroma and taste a lot of raisins. Slightly rotten aroma and taste. Good but not brilliant

330ml bottle courtesy of Benzai. Thanks. Pours a reddish amber color with no head. The aroma is big and bold with sweetened sherry, brown sugar and candied fruits. The taste, like the aroma, is overtly sweet with more candy-like flavors--I get rock candy, sherry, tokay, apples, toffee, caramel and a hint of bitter almonds. The palate is full, like a syrup, and a touch greasy. The carbonation is soft. Finishes medium in duration and sweet. Overall: I am not normally a fan of sweet beers, but they can be done right and DeMolen has figured just how to do that. Its really more like an after-diner aperitif than a beer, but that is alright by me. Just lovely it is.

Ciemnomiedziana barwa, nalało się właściwie bez piany. Słodki aromat suszonych owoców i karmelu. W smaku wyraźna słodycz owocowa i posmak przypalonego cukru. Pomimo zawartości 15,2% alkoholu, jest on praktycznie niewyczuwalny. Piwo jest gęste i zostawia wyraźny słodki posmak w ustach, ale także średniowysoką goryczkę. Świetne na zimowe wieczory.

Bottle on Christmas Day and New Year’s eve. This beer is amazing. Sweet nectar for the gods. Orange, almost pink appearance, clear liquid, mildly sparkling and no head. The body of this beer is massive but super smooth. You barely notice you’re drinking a 15,2% beer! Sweet malts, orange marmelade, honey, toffee notes in the taste. Alcohol very well hidden, little if any carbonation. Some nice hops in the finish to balance things out. One of the best barley wines I know. Complex and very well balanced.

Bommen barleywine ’11 at 15% I am scared to try it! The body is a light looking orange gold... It is trying to lull me into a false sense of security... The nose is buttery creamy caramel with bitter fruity hops. A bit fruit cake like. The mouthfeel is slick and fairly full with an incredibly sweet flavor is maple syrup/caramel lollipops, fruits & candy. Intensely sweet but not cloying. Wonderfully simple yet satisfying.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2015 Bottle 33cl. 1.5 years old. Pours dark amber, nearly mahogany colour. Practically, no foam, likely due to high alcohol content, which is perfectly hidden at the beggining and slightly appears in the later on giving enjoyable warming feeling. The beer has a very full aroma with honey, fruits, likely orange and tangerine, a bit of wine (barleyish, of course), soy sauce and caramel - all balanced very naturally. The taste is very multifaceted, rich, malty, a bit sweet with nice and soft bittering end and short yeasty feel of dryness. Full bodied, smooth on the palate, very enjoyable, almost too easy-to-drink to be true if you consider the alcohol content, but it hits your head definately and quite quickly so be careful :) Beautiful beer. Great stuff.

[5846-20130921] Bottle. Toasted sherry fruit donut cereal aroma. Hazy, dark brown red body with a quick bubbly white head. Boozy sherried Christmas cake base flavour has a nice long sweet aftertaste. Tasty, big. (7/3/8/4/15) 3.7
