COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There’s plenty of fruit like orange, tangerine and sweet apples. It’s powerful and full bodied but still easy going. Although the name would suggest otherwise, it’s our favourite amongst the female clientele yet also highly appreciated by the other sex. Well hopped as always, but the obvious alcohol and the massive malt and fruit character restrict the hops to the background, only to reveal itself in the finish. Full bodied, notes of champagne. Champagne mousse after pouring in the glass. Grapes and a hint of mandarin curacao in the aroma, together with a hint of vin mousseux. Malty sweet flavor, immensely full bodied, with mandarine curacao and vinous notes. Thick mouthfeel, just a touch of yeast in the aftertaste. Huge beer.

Pours an average frothy off-white head that mostly diminishes. Body is murky and amber orange. Aroma contains light bread, molasses, orange and lemon zest, dough, grape, raisin, plum, pineapple, cherry, vineous aromas, alcohol and spices. Body is medium to full, with syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Flavor starts off quite acidic with light sweetness and faint bitterness, to be followed by sweetness and to finish in bitterness and warming alcohol. Complex, subtle, mjam!

0,33l bottle from Sörspecialista, Budapest. Hazy, light amber color with small white head. Fruits, grape and a bit sour odor witch reminds me to a Lambic one. The alcohol appears, but it isn’t invading like in other Barley Wines. This beer is actually remind me to a grape wine... or a Gueuze. The yeast and malty flavours is just like Lambic ones. The yeast gives an intensive fruity flavour to the aroma. Light sweet taste. Light to medium body, slick texture, soft cabonation. Lambic flavour finish. Beyond doubt it’s the best Barley Wine I’ve ever tasted. This Lambic flavours makes it so special. My idea is that this beer is made from a High Gravity Lambic with is refermented with a high alcohol-tolerance yeast. This is why it has this special aroma and taste with this light body. Amazing recipe!

Bottle. Hazy amber liquid with small to medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel, red berries, fruit, apples, raw sugar and toffee. Taste is medium to high sweet and light bitter with notes of red berries and caramel. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Nice and very dangerous. Tastes like strawberry juice and is 15.2%...

33cl bottle from Cotteridge Wines.Bottled on 07/02/2012.Will really have to re try this again in the future with an aged bottle, and a larger size too if possible.Considering the alcohol strength i really should have known better and given it more time to mature.Anyone who has ever visited a brewery and tried the brew before the addition of yeast to start the ferment will know what i mean.Way too sweet and syrupy like drinking liquid toffee with alcohol in it although signs of a very good beer are there.Having said that still managed to drink it and will re rate an aged bottle in the future.

Bottled, 33 cl. Luminous opalesquent amber body, small yellowish head, which leaves a thin film behind. Liquerique, dried fruity nose and aroma escorted by caramel, sugar and some toast. Syrupy, sticky mouthfeel. Long sweetbitter finish with herbs, citrusses and toasted malt. Serious brew.

Hazy amber pour with a fast dissipating head. Very low carbonation on the palate. The inital taste is sweet fruits like peaches, pears and then rolls into a toffee finish with a sweetness on the tongue.

Dark ruby pour with a small offwhite head. Aroma is marzen-like, with a weak smell of caramel and not too much else. Taste is pretty strong (and sweet) though. Caramel, raisins and alcohol. Rich and fullbodied, almost chewable.

2013.01.26 - De Molen Bommen & Granaten - 12oz (apparently) bottle in goblet glass. Bottle marked "Brewed on 15 April 2010 Bottled on 19 August 2010". Bottle 951 of 2304 in batch. Pours a caramel raisiny opaque creamy tan / brown. Little to no head, or apparent carbonation. Aroma is raisiny and earth fruit, similar to other barley wine type beers. In the ballpark of Dogfish Head Raison D’Extra. Takes a pretty close whiff to get much aroma. Mouthfeel is medium light. Little to no carbonation. Taste is interesting. It comes off as quite light for such a high abv barleywine type. Very smooth. High concentrated fruit (like raisin, fig etc) sweetness and simply fades to nothing and then the very back end is just a very dilute soft spicy aftertaste. Never really any obvious alcohol. Pretty tasty stuff. I can’t imagine what this would taste like in a few decades, it can be cellared for 25 years and it’s amazingly smooth already for 15%. My first De Molen. Probably worth gathering some for cellaring. Aroma 6/10, Appearance 4/5, Taste 8/10, Palate 4/5, Overall 17/20
