COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There’s plenty of fruit like orange, tangerine and sweet apples. It’s powerful and full bodied but still easy going. Although the name would suggest otherwise, it’s our favourite amongst the female clientele yet also highly appreciated by the other sex. Well hopped as always, but the obvious alcohol and the massive malt and fruit character restrict the hops to the background, only to reveal itself in the finish. Full bodied, notes of champagne. Champagne mousse after pouring in the glass. Grapes and a hint of mandarin curacao in the aroma, together with a hint of vin mousseux. Malty sweet flavor, immensely full bodied, with mandarine curacao and vinous notes. Thick mouthfeel, just a touch of yeast in the aftertaste. Huge beer. ABV on the label reduced from 15 to 11.9%. Recipe remains the same

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2016 Atypische quadruple.

11.9%ABV. Barleywine. Poured out rusty brown. 18şSRM. Nose is sweet with brown sugar, wine, cleaner lighter sweet aromas of boiled barley, fruity in the nose like mixed grape juice with plums, prunes and peaches. Mouthfeel is carbonated and syrupy. Palate has solid malty flavors with barley syrup and malted candies and taffy. Cornsyrup sweet mixed with a thick alcholic, slightly umami before finishing. The tail end of the palate has some Woody, dry, young red wine flavors with tannins. No real hop finish. Finish is Woody and astringent. Overall, the taste experience was very characteristically DeMolen for me with a bursts of flavor and aroma along the entire duration of tasting rather than a smooth transition of flavors. Not unpleasant, just different. It’s a personal thing, but my palate prefers a smoother subtler ride and where I can appreciate the brewers craftiness in orchestrating the tasting experience. I do dearly love the folks at DeMolen though, they are the nicest people!

Pours copper with a thin tan head that quickly dissipates. No lacing. Very sweet aroma. Notes of earth, caramel and cherries with the strong presence of the alcohol. Flavor is sweet, tabacco, cherries and toffee. Alcohol aggressive. Medium/full bodied. Low carbonation. Oily texture that is sticky on the lips. Light astringent finish. I will let this one age for the 25 years and let you know.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. A cloudy, thick mahogany coloured opaque beer. It has strong candy sugar, pineapple and red fruity flavours, with notes of currants, toffee, orange marmalade and a sherry on the fruity, warming alcoholic finish. Excellent!

Bottle, I forget where from. Classic barley wine appearance, brown oily malt and limited fizz or head. Obviously sweet syrupy fruity prune notes, but also a decent spicy hop kick to balance it out. Alcohol is well hidden and it wasn’t that cloying so well made in that sense. Alcohol does send one to sleep somewhat though. It was nice enough but not sure I’d want to drink this that often...
