Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Jun 9, 2009 (Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm) Dark brown, almost black, with a frothy pale brown head. Lots of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dried fruit, prunes, coffee and black-currant. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, liquorice, milky chocolate and a well roasted finish with balanced bitterness. Sediment gives it a slightly yeasty aroma when poured in, but doesn’t change the taste much. More than medium body with smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Well rounded and chewy stout with a touch of dried fruit. Nice one. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands May 13, 2009 Botella, thanks yespr. Clear red-brown colour, light very big light brown creamy long lasting head. Very nice roasty malty, dark fruity bitter aroma with a light sourness. Bit thin mouthfeel for a stout. Roasty maltiness in the flavour with dark fruits, mild sour touch and a pleasant bitterness, bit of coffee. Dry roasty choco powderish finish. Pinball (2693), Allerød, Denmark May 9, 2009 gift from yespr. shared with faroeviking. bottle. as "Stout" tht 14/24/10 7.3% alc. Nowhere at all on label does the word "Borefts" show, and the alc.% is 7.3%. I am not sure this is the right beer entry, but it’s the only stout from de molen. 8 717624 420313. water, gersemout, hop en gist.
pours dark brown, giant thick vanilla head.
aroma is fruits, roasted grains, spices.
flavor is sourish, licorice, roasteed grains.. this beer is quite clearly infected and has become a sour stout, if it was not sour i’d rate it considerably higher, beneath the infection hides a real good stout. oh6gdx (8798), Vasa, Finland Apr 25, 2009 Bottled (from Cracked Kettle). Very deep ambery brown colour, close to black, with huge brown foamy head. Aroma is coffee, toffee, some roasted malts, licorice, ashes and tobaccoa. Flavour is tobacco, liquorice, some ashes, mild alcohol and nuts. Very smooth, and gets a bit vanillaish when getting warm. 4.1 sounds a bit high as a rating, but I really can’t find any element I would lower from this... So probably it deserves it. jerohen (1602), Bussum, Netherlands Mar 26, 2009 Bottled. Very dark-brown coloured, big lasting brown head. Malty nose, liquorice and ammonium chloride. Lots of liquorice (in Dutch: salmiak), bitter in finish. Lacks the creamy mouthfeel i like in a stout, and the liquorice notes are too dominant. Not my kind of stout. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Feb 21, 2009 A Mes rate: bottle from Utobeer but supped on the wonderful Lakeside Terrace at the Barbican. Chestnut brown with a very good and well behaved dark beige head. Excellent fruity malt with a lovely sweet perfume note. Light hints of tobacco, stewed plums and lovely mineral notes too. A good smell. All of the above in the flavour along with some excellent chocolate and coffee hints. Pleasant bitterness in the finish rounds things off beautifully. The alcohol is pretty much undetectable. Well made, reasonably complex and very enjoyable. Another class act from Menno. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 18, 2009 Cracked Kettle. Dark brown with plummy and malty nose. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, even licorice. Roasty stout. Nice malty finish. Oily texture. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 26, 2008 11.2 oz. bottle, purchased by my mom at the brewery during her trip to the Netherlands in the spring of 2008. Thanks Mom! Consumed on Christmas day, 2008. Dry, malty aroma features brownie and plum scents as well as a hint of mocha. The smell is nice, but it*s not as strong or as complex as I had hoped. Pours a rich and opaque but not particularly dark brown with a golden to amber hue and a small amount of beige head. Large amount of suspended particulate. Very appetizing appearance. Dry taste of coffee and dark chocolate with a tangy, lemony finish. Much less sweet than the aroma implies. Burnt malts produce a charcoal-like taste, but not in a bad way. Yeasty. Some sweetness gradually emerges upon multiple sips. Medium body. Silky texture. A touch on the dull side in the palate. De Molen Borefts Stout is a good, solid but unspectacular example of the style.
