austone (1062) - Turku; Pori, - FEB 19, 2010
33cl bottle at Beer Hunter’s, Pori. Dark brown with floaties, foamy beige head leaving tigh lace. Nose has some cheese, pear, licorice herbs, hints of Bostik glue. Flavor is ash, licorice, burned rubber, cellary house yeastiness, some booziness, sourness and mediciny notes showing. A tad hollow, but soft palate, very low carbonation. Cheesy and messy old world porter, not for me.

750ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam) BB 2014/10/24, drunk 2011/12/30
6 Sweet treacly aroma, Chris says it’s like a northern English cake.
5 Black black, lovely tight creamy persistent head.
7 Again, a lovely rich treacly taste.
4 Full palate, carbonation moderate. Burntness heavy, but not extreme at all, just a touch hinting towards astringency, but not quite reaching there. Hops pop up in the finish occasionally, but don’t come to the front ever.
14 Improves as it warms, mellows and smoothes.

mjs (2998) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 18, 2011
(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Pikkulintu - shared with Rosenbergh) The beer poure deep dark brown and cloudy. Its head was light brown and disappeared quickly. Aroma had molasses, sweetness and roastedness. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, roastedness, mildly coffee, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was bitter. The taste was too mild and it lasted only a very short time. Adding yeast from the bottom of the bottle actually improved the taste.

Warning! Early amateur rating! A thhinish stout. Minerally and sweet with a very dry complex finish full of malt and a subtle smoky note. Very nice.

11.2 ounce bottle courtesy of Santa Papsoe. Thanks! Dated Jan 4, 2010, opened 9/13/10. Pours a dark brown color with some sediment. Creamy tan head, medium sized, with good head retention and lacing. Aroma of rich cocoa, caramel notes, faint nutty notes and mild fruity notes including cherries and stone fruits. The taste is chocolate, bitter hops, cherries, some leafiness and a bit of an oat-like note. Slightly tart. A bit thin bodied. Moderate carbonation and fairly smooth. Nice beer.

Svesse (4389) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - JUN 9, 2009
(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm) Dark brown, almost black, with a frothy pale brown head. Lots of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dried fruit, prunes, coffee and black-currant. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, liquorice, milky chocolate and a well roasted finish with balanced bitterness. Sediment gives it a slightly yeasty aroma when poured in, but doesn’t change the taste much. More than medium body with smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Well rounded and chewy stout with a touch of dried fruit. Nice one.
