Sweet, caramel smell, alcohol/phenols are percibeable. Taste is sweet malty, somewhat spicy. Very good! thewolf (3959), Kolding, Denmark Jun 2, 2008 Bottle. [thank you Skortila/Caesar]
Pours a most wonderful coppery golden with a fine, staying, creamy, yellowish head. Beautiful simply. Aroma is wonderfully sweet and extremely complex. Lots of raisins, plums, chocolate, figs, spices (notably cardemum and cinnamon), some doughy malts and caramel. Dark brown sugar as well. Low to medium carbonation. Flavour is truly magnificent. Very subdued viniousness hiding lots of fruity characters, some apples and raspberries appearing alongside the dried, dark fruits. In the aftertaste, a touch of flowery hops mix well with yeastiness and light chocolate. Why is this rated so low? Wonderful experience! jerohen (1478), Bussum, Netherlands Aug 22, 2007 Updated: Oct 8, 2007Dark brown coloured, thick brown head. Malty with fruity notes, some caramel and liquorice. Warming alcohol sensation. Good brew! jbrus (4178), Delft, Netherlands Jan 8, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. Lovely aroma of soft spices with strong vanilla. Dark brown color, beige fine head, very nice lace. Very sweet, soft but strong flavors. Strong bitterness, lots of spices but certainly not aggresive, candy sugar, cardemon, hint of licorice. Very full, smooth mouthfeel but a little dry in the finish. Yes, a Rochfort-like yeast is certainly detectable but Rochefort clone? Don’t think so. It has a complete character of it’s own with the hops used, the softness and it’s easy going.
