Backlog rating. 33cl bottle at the Chriso’s May tasting. Another off BIPA from De Molen. This one, same as amarillo, has odd off-putting rubbery/burnt plastic tones that interfere with a decent piny hoppiness and not-so-great roasted malt tones. All in all, a poor beer

Bottle shared at Chrisso’s May 2014 tasting 25/05/2014. Clear caramel / mahogany brown coloured pour with an off white head. Aroma is earthy, dark malts, musty, stale grains. Flavour is sharp roast, dark choc, musty, coffee bean, veg. Palate is high carbonation, sharp on the tongue. Meh.

Bottle shared at chriso’s May 2014 tasting - London. Pours clear, dark brown with a creamy, light beige head. The nose has tangy dark malts, bread and pine. Light sweet flavor, astringent and rubbery, with some charred wood accents. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Bitter char on the finish, and little else. Shabby.

Tasting at the ever gracious ChrisO’s. Lightly hazy deep amber beer, big pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and light, superfine carbonation. Mild dark malts with a mild tang, whispers of coffee and dark chocolate. Mildly tangy dried fruits. Even a little noble hop bitterness. Light semi dry finish. Has survived fairly well.

Bottle @ Chriso May 14 tasting. Pours dark brown, fruit cake, dark malts, a few drops of citrus, acidic tart tang, fizzy.. I sense this is not at its best.

Scopey (12705) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 26, 2014
Bottle at Chriso. It pours dark brown with a thick tan head. The nose is bitter-sweet, toast, roasted malt, earth, caramel, treacle and brown bread. The taste is rich, toasty, bitter, earth, spice, alcohol, sour/tart aspect, meatiness, acidic and resin with a dry, tart finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A bit tart and acidic unfortunately....

Sehr dunkelbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, Kaffee, Schokolade, fruchtig hopig. Geschmack röstmalzig, schokoladig, Kaffee, fruchtig bitter.

The head is good, the body black-red. It smells intensive flowery, darkmalty, strong. The taste is hopintesive, a bit darkmalty, flowery, coffee-bitter, great and interesting.

Bottle from the De Molen shop, bottled 26 Apr 2013
Black color with medium sized head. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee, a bit dusty. Dry mouthfeel with very strong roasted malt character, quite ashy and burnt, with the bitterness deriving also from it, and some hop oils in the end.
The Saaz is not evident; overall it’s unbalanced.
