3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mpersinger (316) - , California, USA - JUL 8, 2010
Thanks to a Ratebeerian and Joe T’s place for this opaque pour with aroma of oak, chocolate nibs and raisin paste. Body feels heavy, partially since this beer is nearly still. There’s some stickiness, a detergent note that deters me from rating higher. There’s a mystic here, not a mistake, that makes me want to revisit this beer another time...something lost in transit I bet.

(Bottle, purchased at The Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam) Very dark brown colour, almost black, with brief bubbly beige head. More or less still, with no cabonation. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dried fruit, chocolate and hints of wood. Slightly vinous. Malty, slightly fruity taste with dried fruit (raisins, prunes), liquorice, dark chocolate, sweet espresso and a long slightly vinous finish. Full body, smooth and silky. Fairly sweet. Possibly more fruity and vinous than the original version, but and excellent beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 pharkanklaus (34) - KBH N, DENMARK - APR 27, 2010
Bottle. No head, light carbonation, almost black color.
Deep roasted nose with dried fruit and a hint of alcohol.
Round and elegant in the moth with silky-sweetness shielding of the hopbitterness that aparently is 99,9 EBU (~IBU).
The finish is rich with a hint of lasting sourness
The low carbonation is indeed suiting and the overall impression is very good!
