Brewed with brown malts, an English traditional specialty malt, we created an Imperial Russian Stout that has won prizes at festivals across Europe from Sweden to Italy. It’s big, black, roasted and complex. We are convinced that not trying this ale will be a mortal sin to your taste buds and beer experience. Oak chips have been put in 40 year old cognac and then added to the beer.

Dark color with no head. What a wonderful smooth palate. Very full flavored beer with lots of licorice. From my Backlog.

750mL bottle, 2009 vintage, #63/153. Poured inky black with no head sticking around. The aroma picked up a blend of chocolates (skewed toward the sweeter side), vanilla, molasses, and honey, with complementary accents of oak and cognac.. great spicy cognac kick right on the back of the nose. The flavor found a little licorice to go with rich vinous notes, vanilla, and cocoa at the core.. wisps of smoke and charred oak laced throughout.. mostly sweet cognac and smoky cocoa on the long, belly-warming finish.. very tasty! Heavy-bodied with low carbonation.. coating and well-balanced.. awesome stuff!

Bottle share thanks to Taylor. Pitch black. Minimal head. Nose of coffee and roast. Taste is slightly tart with dark coffee grains and a light astringency. Woody character adds a nice drying character.

Bottle at FoCo Stout Tasting 2013, courtesy of Armin. Thanks man! Pour is deep brown with a small brown head that quickly dissipated. Roasty, bourbon, caramelly, toffee, dark fruits, and chocolate in the aroma. Taste deep roast, light bread, dark fruits, cocoa, coffee, tangy, and grapey. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle @ Armin’s palace, courtesy of arminjewell. Thanks! Pours a black appearance with a thin brown head. Woody, dark grape, plum, a bit spicy aroma. Goopy dark chocolate, brownie, pretty thick malty, vanilla, sweet dark fruity flavor. Nice one.

Dark brown liquid with chocolate brown head. Aroma is mostly bitter with alcohol, hops, roasted wood, roasted chocolate and some coffee. Taste is medium bitter at first then chocolate and cocoa. The roasted feel lasts long in the aftertaste.

33 cl bottle, huge thanks to Mathieu87 for finding this for me, 11/10/2013. Pours deep brown, practically black, light tan head forms a nice cushion on the surface before dying to haze, thin ring of lacing apparent around the glass. Aroma is bitter dark chocolate, acidic coffee and charred roast, touch of licorice and vanilla, with dry wood, subtle fruity cognac rounding out the finish. Taste is licorice, dark chocolate moderately sweet, toffee under dark fruity barrel notes, long roast finish, deeply bitter. Medium thick body, flavors remain sharp and focused. Perhaps not as dark, chewy and roasted as some of my favorite treatments, but quite nice all the same, really glad to have tried.

Underbar färg, svart med högt gräddigt skum som ligger kvar. Smaken är underbar, söt, rostad malt, kaffe, chocklad kanske lite ek? Balanserad ut till det yttersta!
