(Bottled, 5% ABV) Hazy light amber with a medium to large, lacy and lasting head. Freshly flowery-piney-herby-hoppy aroma with strawberries and tropical fruit. Aromatic-flowery-hoppy, quite fruity flavor with a dry finish. Medium-bodied, quite carbonated palate. Pleasantly dry, and extremely aromatic for a Dutch beer. Nice, and not even watery, IMO. Too bad I didn’t get a big bottle of this...

Bottle from Bier Koning. Orange cream colour. Decent head. Nose is hoppy. Quite soft and unassuming. Some caramel. Fruits too (peach, mango.) Well-balanced. With a nice hoppy finish. Enjoyable. A new type of bitter for me.

Low alcohol beer, with lot’s of hopflavour. Fresh in the mouthfeel, golden colour, a little watery maybe, but the oparoma’s are the best i’ve tasted in a bitterlager.

Hazy darkish orange/amber color, small steady white head. I don’t find nose as aromatic hoppy than many earlier raters, for me this is closer to typical Dutch ale’s aroma: it’s fruity (mango, apricot), touch of candy sugar with pinewoody hops thrown in. Maybe it is just Molen’s yeast in the nose, because flavor is dry, not all fruity and sweet. Piney planks, leather and aromatic hops in the flavor. Late bitterness. A bit papery in the aftertaste. Quite different Dutch beer. Is it excellent beer? I don’t know, let’s say that it is more interesting than really good.

UPDATED: MAR 19, 2008 Bottle. Frothy white excelent mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Light malty fantastic hoppy aroma. Loads of flowers and grass-notes. Really fantastic. Moderate bitter flavor. Long moderate bitter finish. Not as grasyy as promised in aroma. Oily and dry palate. Good stuff.

Remarkably extracted honeyed malt flavours. Pour is medium amber, murky and topped bu a massive white foam. Fresh citrusy hops blend into nectar while grassy and brown sugar notes are unveiled and developed in the second half of the palate. A very successful brew. Delicious sweetish, yet balanced palate. Different than what the English are doing, but better than most.

Bottle. [thank you, Skortila!]
Pours a nice pale amber with a big, creamy yellow-white head. Fizzes away slowly, leaving very little lacing. Aroma has hops, mostly fruity (grapefruit, oranges) as well as pine. There is a good background of caramel. Flavour is perhaps a little thin, but has a nice hoppy taste. As a bitter, it is very nice, but lacks a bit in mouthfeel.

Cask, Jan Primus. Cask conditioned version of de Molen Engels. Clear amber color, short frothy white head. Aroma of hop, grapefruit, pine, some caramel malt. Very malty and bitter taste, quite fruity as well. Very nice bitter!
Earlier Rating: 6/18/2007 Total Score: 3.2
Clear golden color, short frothy white head. Aroma is flowery and hoppy, some grapefruit, some pine. Quite bitter taste, bit citrus, bit weak and clean, quite dry. Decent bitter, but it lacks some creamyness in the texture. Very watery body.

Bottled. Quite yeasty with strong little creatures type floral flavours. Decent bitterness but kind of watery. Sort of like a hoegaarden with the hops they use for little creatures (from memory american cascade hops). Interesting but probably not something I’d try again, especially given the other beers at the brewery. Other ratings seem to indicate it is better from the cask, curse my laziness in not taking my notebook to the brewery... they probably had it there on tap.

Cask@GBBF2007. Hazy golden colour, small white head. Aroma is really fruity and hoppy along with caramel. Flavour is honey, fruits, some slight papery nose and really caramelly. A very nicely balanced thing.
