courtesy of Antonio Ruiz - cloudy orange colour with a poor white foam left; robust fruity hoppiness (citrus and grapefruit) with yeasty tones; effervescent and medium-bodied, slightly acidic and with a pronounced bitterness; long yeasty and fruity (orange peels dominate) finish - very drinkable

Bottle LCRBM08. Orangey coloured, hazy, smaller white head. Hoppy and fruity nose. Dry bitter flavour, light bodied. Dry bitter -as well - finish with a yeasty touch. Quite right........

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2008 A Mes rate: Cask at Chelmsford Beer Festival. Pale blonde colour. Probably a 2 but I’m being generous. Amyl nitrate and floral gums aroma. Fairly bland flavour with some grassy hops and grapefruit and some cheap lemonade. Strange and worth a try. Hats off to de Molen for doing a cask bitter. (2.7) ***RE-RATE*** Cask at GBBF. What a difference. Amazing what a bit of condition can do. Lovely hoppy and floral stuff with a good balance. Superbly drinkable. Citric character that was almost unpleasant last time I had it has now become a really pleasant bitterness. Liked it.

Cask (gravity dispense) at GBBF, day 3 on 3 August 2006. Hazy amber colour. Very perfumed, with lots of aromatic, flowery hops on the nose. Falls away on the palate though. Very lightweight and a bit short of depth with little malt in evidence. Maybe something wrong with the condition? Certainly something not quite right with the one I got anyway - a shame as I’d heard promising reports from people whose opinion I trust. Flagged for re-rate.

Gewürziger und hopfiger Antrunk mit angenehmen, teilweise aber zu übertriebenen Kräuternoten. Milder werdend, die Hopfigkeit weicht einem herben bis bitteren Ton, welche eine getreidige Nuance aufweist. /8/7/8//9

Bottle: Pours a clear deep golden with a stringy froth of white head. Has a floral grassy hoppy nose with just a hint of pale malts. Starts with average fullness for the style with a light pale malty sweetness and some grassy hop notes before a drier, bitter thinner finish. Pretty smooth and drinkable with a good hop note, but could use a little more toast and body in the malt profile.

Small rim left, over hazy yellow-ochtre beer. Spicy nose, like an old Christmas wreath with dried pine, cypress & herbs. And dry hops. Citrussy, and yet spiced hops. Very leafy-flowery flavourprofile. Medium bodied at best. Cyano-link, like almonds, in the aftertaste. Strange, very fine nose, but finishing rather unhappy on the palate.

Cask conditioned – gravity dispense – GBBF. A hazy dark copper coloured beer with some great orange hop notes in the aroma. The taste is also beautifully hoppy with more orange fruit notes. A great effort by this Dutch brewery at a cask conditioned beer. Long may others try and succeed likewise.

Bottle (batch 753). Gusher (even at extremely cold temperature). Pours with a massive white head over a murky yellow body with very violent carbonation. Head is somewhat rocky. Aromas are hoppy, spicy, pine/sawdust, herbal, grassy and grainy, bready, light esters. Hop forward. Flavors are earthy, spicy and bitter in the finish. Extremely grassy. Slightly husky. Bitter, light tobacco. Distractingly high amount of carbonation.
