3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle from Ales by Mail. Quite lively on the pour giving a large, dense & rocky, lasting orange-hued tan head topping off a near opaque burgundy coloured body. There are plenty of sweet & sour red & dark berry notes to the aroma with background touches of roasted malt, coffee & chocolate. It’s the coffee & roasted malt qualities that take the fore on the palate, however, yet retaining elements of the berry character. Quite a dry & bitter malt base. Finished with a lingering roasty, ashy, coffee bitterness. Medium body, firm, structured & fairly crisp & spritzy in the mouth.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Chocolatey, fruity aroma. Amber-brown with fluffy, sudsy off-white head.
Lightly chocolatey taste. An excellent porter.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
33cl bottle. Pours opaque black with not much head. Nose of dark chocolate, coffee and some hazelnuts. The taste has burnt malt, coffee and a slight astringency on the end. The palate is medium bodied and light and creamy texture and an astringent finish. Overall, decent.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A black beer with a nice colour, light brown, medium head. Aroma is aromatic and quite nice, lots of chocolates, roastiness, coffee, nice sweetness and milky sourness. Taste is similar than aroma, chocolates, coffee, balanced sweetness and roastiness. Light+ bodied, nice carbonation, too light to drink. Very nice, personal Porter, the light body is the weakest sector, nice aroma and taste.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
De Molen is (in-)famous for its experimental, shocking beers, but this is just a normal stout. Well, actually it is not, since this is not a fair world. If the world was a better place this would be a normal stout. Full of flavour, lots of chocolate, some coffee, nice hoppy flavour (but not too much). It is not a sweet stout, there is not even so much liquorice or toffee in it. I love it this way. Honestly, I love this one more than the experimental beer De Molen brews.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Nina’s Mini Mart, Edinburgh
Black..slight ruby edges...tan head that dissipates to thin layer
Aroma - roasted malts...deep roast...bit of smoke...burnt crust...woody...some bitter hops in background...bit of dark chocolate...savoury bit meaty...ashy...quite complex
Taste - as above...lots of roast...bit of sweet dark malts to counterblaance...bit sooty....rather complex...powerful flavour for 5.1%
Palate - soft carb...thin to medium body....mouthcoating burnt crust with underlying sweet dark malts and bitter hops...bit acidic tang. Finish as main flavour...long lingering dryish burnt crust and rich woody dark malts - but not too much.
Overall - Complex flavour and aroma for the abv. Interesting, a good brew - 1 bottle is just the right amount though

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Chocolate is understated. Poured extremely flat and tastes undercarbonated, leaving the palate a bit underwhelming. Otherwise this is a very nice beer and quite drinkable at 5.1.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer in the glass is very dark brown, almost black, with a fine creamy head. It smells strongly coffee, with plenty of roasted malt, peat, toffee and chocolate. Starts with a lot of chocolate and roasted malt, lots aromas of roasted coffee, with some caramel in the background, overall very sweet. The middle part shows a lot of burnt malts, combined with sweet chocolate and coffee. In the finish properly roasted malty, again with burnt malts and a slight berry-hoppy note. Awesome Porter!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Currently drinking while typing. After being poured you will smell a reasonable aroma in this brew, not a massive collision of screaming scents like other De Molen beers. Primarily you can smell burnt malts, herb like hops, soy sauce, coffee, burnt sugar, roasted nuts and liquorice. The appearance is fantastic! Dark moody black colour with a slight hint of reddish brown light glow around the edges of the glass but with one absolutely incredible beige head of tight wound long lasting foaminess which is creamy and leaves nice lacing. Great flavours in this too, clean sharp dose of flavour which instantly mellows into a lengthy after flavour. Tastes of smokey and burnt malts, yeast, dark hops with a herb edge, coffee, liquorice, vanilla and a long lasting but subtle aftertaste of bitterness, malts and cereals. Medium body and feel with an over done carbonation which doesn’t suit the beer well and nulls some of the tastes slightly. Good brew definitely, not one of the better De Molens out there but certainly doesn’t cast a shadow over their name! Mainly too carbonated, other than that go try one!
