3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Grima (1863) - Saarburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, - FEB 26, 2012The beer in the glass is very dark brown, almost black, with a fine creamy head. It smells strongly coffee, with plenty of roasted malt, peat, toffee and chocolate. Starts with a lot of chocolate and roasted malt, lots aromas of roasted coffee, with some caramel in the background, overall very sweet. The middle part shows a lot of burnt malts, combined with sweet chocolate and coffee. In the finish properly roasted malty, again with burnt malts and a slight berry-hoppy note. Awesome Porter!

Bottle from The Trappist. Pours near black with a huge creamy tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses flavor with a carbonated licorice finish. Very well-crafted.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours black with a creamy light tan head. Aromas of chocolate, light treacle. Med minus body. Flavor is chocolate, mildly treacle, then it goes all anise in a somewhat bitter finish. Sophisticated and refined.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Douberd (632) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 10, 2013
330 ml bottle at home. ABV 5.2% on my bottle, bottled on March 15th, 2012
Ridiculous amount of foam. I started pouring it into a small pint glass and it filled up with foam while I had only poured the beer filling the bottle’s neck. I switched to a Guinness half liter glass with the same results, filled up with a froathy, beige head. After lots of patience I managed to fill my glass with actual beer, deep brown in colour.
Aroma of roasted malts and a bit of chocolate.
Taste also of heavily roasted malts, along with smoke and caramel .Light acidity and a metal flavour, nothing offensive though. It leaves a nice bitterness on the aftertaste, with medium duration.
Very dry on the palate, it leaves a numb feeling. Medium thickness on the body, average carbonation.
Overall, not bad but not that great either.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Hanoi (74) - - MAY 10, 2013
Nose, is a lovely, mellow, milky coffee; just smelling it makes one feel relaxed. Taste is malty, lightly bitter, roast, slight coffee (though not as pronounced as in the nose) wood. Lactose finish which fades too soon. Mouthfeel is nice and full.
Overall a very nice porter, with a delicious nose, and a well balanced taste.

fazit: ordentliches porter, gut trinkbar.

poured into US pint glass. Nice foam, very dark. Smell is quite faint. A bit watery. Taste is dark, bitterness from malt, coffee like dryness. A bit astringent finish.
Overall, a bit too dry for me.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 solidfunk (1790) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 30, 2013
Heavy dose of smoked peat in the flavour here. Almost unbalances the rest of the beer, although it makes for an interesting drink. Pours cloudy brown with sediment. Finishes a little smoky bitter. Lots of malt and a little dark chocolate. Bottle.
