33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black colour, brown head. Great aroma of espresso, moccha, alcohol, bitter chocolate, tar, light peat, hard roasted malts. Flavour is lots of hard roasted malt flavours, espresso, bitter chocolate, moccha, coffee, tar, alcohol, some dark fruits, bitter roasted finish with some earth and chili (!). Medium to fullbodied, soft carbonation. Really good, worth every penny.

Bottle. Aroma of dark chocolate, peat and roasted malt. Flavour is alcoholic and has some peatiness in it. It really has the full dark, bitter chocolate flavour and some burnt caramel of toffee. Oily texture on the tongue, goes down pretty well. Gives a nice, alcoholic warming after swallowing, flavour lasts long. Awesome find, love the peat returning in every sip. Great.!

Ok, this is what an imperial stout should look like: black almost motoroil pour, medium vast brown head, that slowly changes into a vast brown lacing, on top of a pitch black beer. Looks promissing.
The smell is almost kind of typical for De Molen imperial stouts: roasted malts, coffee roast, burned wood, a slight hint of something metal, herbs, stingy hay and roasted barleys.
Taste lots of roasted malts, dark chocolate drenched hops, coffee/espresso roast, good bitter, herbs like hay and grass, some just some dark roasted dried fruity sweetness and the slightest hint of oak, peat and vanilla.
Good bitter, herby hoppy and roasted aftertaste.
Low carbo, soft full (tend to silky) mouthfeel, full body and a creamy/oily texture.
This beer looks really good, has a good texture but there seems to be some kind of malty bitterness that tends to go a bit nasty. The aftertaste is therefore more herby. Good brew though I guess this beer didn’t stay in the barrel that long, as it did not really pick up the whisky notes.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Quite resistent, rusty-tan head over black, viscously pouring beer. Some coffee, and lots of (bitter, aromatic) chocolate; smoked (peat) and spirit; woodfire aromas. Quite smoked, lightly phenolic, alcoholsweetness, spirit and bitter chocolate, coffeedrops and tobacco. Very complex, yet just a tad unidimensional. Finish is very dry. Viscous, full bodied, slick and alcoholheat, internal fireworks. Velvety slickness pointing directly at oats. Excellent, as usual, d*mned wax, also as usual. Strangely peated for a Speyside.
