4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very dark brown body and big espresso coloured head. Whole fat milk, chocolate, figs, walnut. Delicate rather than expressive or challenging. Sharp alcohol burst, fermented fruit. Don’t really get the barrel ageing in terms of wood bit I don’t mind that at all. It is full bodied en well developed instead. Low carbonation. Very flavourful, powerful even. Well worth the ABV. Sticky body, which fits the beer well. Quality brew for sure. (33cl bottle, bought at the brewer)

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Aroma of dark chocolate, peat and roasted malt. Flavour is alcoholic and has some peatiness in it. It really has the full dark, bitter chocolate flavour and some burnt caramel of toffee. Oily texture on the tongue, goes down pretty well. Gives a nice, alcoholic warming after swallowing, flavour lasts long. Awesome find, love the peat returning in every sip. Great.!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ok, this is what an imperial stout should look like: black almost motoroil pour, medium vast brown head, that slowly changes into a vast brown lacing, on top of a pitch black beer. Looks promissing.
The smell is almost kind of typical for De Molen imperial stouts: roasted malts, coffee roast, burned wood, a slight hint of something metal, herbs, stingy hay and roasted barleys.
Taste lots of roasted malts, dark chocolate drenched hops, coffee/espresso roast, good bitter, herbs like hay and grass, some just some dark roasted dried fruity sweetness and the slightest hint of oak, peat and vanilla.
Good bitter, herby hoppy and roasted aftertaste.
Low carbo, soft full (tend to silky) mouthfeel, full body and a creamy/oily texture.
This beer looks really good, has a good texture but there seems to be some kind of malty bitterness that tends to go a bit nasty. The aftertaste is therefore more herby. Good brew though I guess this beer didn’t stay in the barrel that long, as it did not really pick up the whisky notes.
