3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours pitch black with a big creamy mocca head. Aroma is tremendous, with nice burned malts, liquorice, tobacco and peat, as well as coffee and lots of dark fruits. Normal body, with an oily, sticky texture and soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with burned malts, coffee, leather and tobacco, as well as dark fruits, kandi and molasses. The sweetness lingers on with kandi and dark fruits in the finish. Very good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
24th June 2012
Opaque black beer, little dark tan head. Woody malt nose. Palate is smooth and dense. Low carbonation. Rich dark malt with a good dose of coffee. Wet wood - mild. Mild minerals. Subtle dark chocolate and red berry fruits. Good stuff but I didn’t think this was up to Menno’s usual super high standard.

Heavy on the roasted malt with lovely flavours of bitter chocolate, coffee, tobacco, smoke...A nice and not overpowering whisky note. A really great beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330 mL bottle from Les Fleurs du Malt in Lyon, France, served in a stem glass at a tasting at Chris’ place. Pours black with a medium, dense tan head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of lace. The nose has big notes of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee along with whisky and oak. The flavour is complex roasted malts and carries the coffee, chocolate and whisky barrel from the nose through to the finish. On the palate, it is full in body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, an excellent Scotch whisky barrel-aged imperial stout. It is complex and harmonious. Delicious. 2012-12-01

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle thanks to Dylan. Looked really rough, but has held up. Pours a pure jet black color with a medium brown head. A pine and hop nose with astringency and whisky. The flavor is a big cocoa and roast, again more pine, the whisky really melts into a similar earthy and bitter flavor, very smooth. Finishes with earthy chocolates. Very solid. Easy despite the ABV.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, traded to me by a fellow ratebeerian while I was in Holland. Pours jet black with ultra bubbly and massive cola head...took forever to dissipate. Nice lacing patterns on the innards of my glassware. Aromas and taste of wood, roasted/smoked malts, mary jane cracker jack, chocolate, peat, pitted fruits and dark cocoa. As it warmed you could really taste the barrel. Soft carbonation with a full body. Perfect amount of peat flavor, never became too overbearing and the 12.3% was very tame in the flavor. Perfect beer for the cold night. Cheers
