Very dark with a very light carbonation. Aroma of vanilla, licorice, tawny port. tastes smokey. In the end the Havert&Gort tastes like pancakes with syrup without the sweetness of it.

(From notes 3 Nov, 2012) Bottle. Poured very aggressively, but still leaves only a small mocha-colored head. The beer is pitch black. Aroma is a bit smokey, malty, hops and vanilla. There is something strangely spicy that reminds me of a Belgian strong ale of some sort. Overall, the aroma is not very strong in any direction, but quite complex. Flavor is clearly different from other imperial stouts I have tried, most noticeably there is yeast. Carbonation is almost nonexistent. Finish is bitter and a bit sour.

I can’t quite determine what it is, but something about Haver & Gort is different, compared to other imperial stouts. My closest, yet vague, deScription is "something Belgian." Either way, an enjoyable beer with a high ABV very well hidden.

33 cl bottle @ home (bottled 28 Feb. 2012, enjoyed 5 Oct. 2012). Color is pitch black. Beige to brown head, thick, with quite some retention. Aroma’s: at first fairly mild, but as the glass got emptier more and more came out: sweet, molasses, roast, some tar, hints of smoke, some wood, with retronasal also some red fruit and chocolate. Flavor: medium sweet, roasted, chocolate. Strong alcoholfeel at first, mellowing a bit later. Full bodied, almost syruppy. Finishes with more roast, ashy, rather dry, medium bitter. The last sip tasted the best....

Bottle 33cl from fonefan thanks ! a dark beer with huge creamy brown head and good retention. Nose is on cereal, dark malt and alcohol. Aroma is on dark chocolate, black malt, caramel, licorice, alcohol is burning and gives a kind of whiskey touch, light smoked notes, quite drinkable.

33 cl bottle @ Timo A. Bottled. 28.02.2012. BBE +25 years.
Pours pitch black color with a medium beige head. Aroma of some port wine, dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, some wooden notes, bourbon, hints of vanilla and peat. Flavor of dark chocolate, ash, cocoa powder, bourbon, some red wine notes, hints of coffee, dark berry notes and peat. Very rich and complex brew with a nice appealing aroma, sadly the alcohol comes through a bit too much. Still very good.

Aroma is sweetish with lots of peat, some whisky and oaky notes. Flavour is sweet and rather strong on whisky notes. Some peat and woody notes too. Foamy and somewhat creamy palate. Too sweet and too strong on whisky.

Bottle from Nina’s. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thick tan head. A lovely roasty malt aroma with chocolate, oak and alcohol notes. Similar flavours and nicely sweet with well balanced alcohol. Great carbonation and ridiculously drinkable!
