3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at Tröls.
Pours black with lacing instead of a head.
Aroma is a bit smoky and leathery with the regular roasted malts.
Leathery, roasted in taste as well. Some coffee and liquorice. Quite bitter taste over all, leaning towards sour which wasn’t that good. Perhaps not a perfect bottle.
Dry and a bit ashy mouth feel, long bitter after taste. Full bodied, low carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden and only shows up at the end.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very dark with a very light carbonation. Aroma of vanilla, licorice, tawny port. tastes smokey. In the end the Havert&Gort tastes like pancakes with syrup without the sweetness of it.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(From notes 3 Nov, 2012) Bottle. Poured very aggressively, but still leaves only a small mocha-colored head. The beer is pitch black. Aroma is a bit smokey, malty, hops and vanilla. There is something strangely spicy that reminds me of a Belgian strong ale of some sort. Overall, the aroma is not very strong in any direction, but quite complex. Flavor is clearly different from other imperial stouts I have tried, most noticeably there is yeast. Carbonation is almost nonexistent. Finish is bitter and a bit sour.
I can’t quite determine what it is, but something about Haver & Gort is different, compared to other imperial stouts. My closest, yet vague, description is "something Belgian." Either way, an enjoyable beer with a high ABV very well hidden.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33 cl bottle @ home (bottled 28 Feb. 2012, enjoyed 5 Oct. 2012). Color is pitch black. Beige to brown head, thick, with quite some retention. Aroma’s: at first fairly mild, but as the glass got emptier more and more came out: sweet, molasses, roast, some tar, hints of smoke, some wood, with retronasal also some red fruit and chocolate. Flavor: medium sweet, roasted, chocolate. Strong alcoholfeel at first, mellowing a bit later. Full bodied, almost syruppy. Finishes with more roast, ashy, rather dry, medium bitter. The last sip tasted the best....
