Bottle, thanks to jeffo, 07/05/2012. Pours black, mocha cream colored head, nice surface retention and thick lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate with subtle fruity overtones, licorice, roasted malt, peat and a bit of iodine. Taste of sweet chocolate balanced by roast bitterness, espresso, with smoke, peat, and touch of alcohol heat. Full, smooth body. De Molen doing what they do best.

0.33 l bottle. Black color with rusty head. Aromas of perfumed alcohol, tar, licorice, wet wood and soft coffee. Grassy coffee, lots of alcohol, salt, licorice and charcoal. Full body, woody palate. Hard to drink, quite boozy, very slow sipper.

Smells like pilsner-malt, leather, alcohol, brown sugar and licorice and some hops. The beer is pitch black the taste is very burned and hoppy. Also got these licorice notes. Bitter as well. Creamy but still very fizzy.

Bottle from Euston Tap.Pours like black oil, but with a light brown head. Rich aroma of smoke, fruit and coffee. Smoke and hints of meatiness, but very moderate, caramel, noticeable alcohol. Complex and original, but age would probably soften some of the edges.

De Molen is back to old form with this brilliant stout. With all the bubbling you can see that beer is alive!. Smooth, full of flavor and a nice finish. Superb beer. Bottle from De Bierkoning.

Bottle. Jet-black with minimal tan head. Aromas of rummy, raisiny sweetness, a whisky-ish edge, definitely, and fruity spiciness there, maybe figgy. Massive hit of boozy whiskiness on the flavour, but evolves into a lovely, chocolate-peanut-like aftertaste, and a touch of Christmas spice as well. Very sadly, there’s a slight metallic roughness on the finish. Very strong, full and powerful. Overall, very nice.

Bottle at home. Deep brown/black pour, thin brown head fades to nothing. Intense, intense nose - massive dark chocolate, soft butterscotch/whisky, just a touch of vegetal funk too, booze, touch of peat perhaps? Surprisingly restrained up front, raisins, cocoa, peaty malts, then joined by a massive peaty whisky hit. VERY whisky. Maybe too much. Very dark chocolate in there too, salted caramel. Slightly thinner-bodied than expected. Earthy, boozy whisky on the finish. A bit rough around the edges, but nice enough.
