3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Hazy deep nutbrown colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is bigtime hops and some caramel malts. Flavour is fruity and flowery hops along with some licorice and alcohol. Balanced and pleasantly drinkable. More a richly hopped barley wine than IIPA/DIPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled (Bottled 17.11.08 bottle #251).
Courtesy of bierkoning, ty Edo! Hazy dark brown, steady creamy beige head. Caramelly, rubbery and hoppy aroma. Lots of licorice, malts, some hops, but not actually really bitter - more like barley wine. Also some "De Molen yeast" -flavor. Suprisingly hops are not there.

35,5 cl bottle @ HJHansen, Odense. Bottle Nr. 224. Pours a muddy amber with small bubbles on top. Nose is sweet and vinous. Port, caramel, dark fruits and hops. No cabonation. Medium bodied. Oily, syrupy & sticky. Looking at it as a Barley Wine its quite nice. Warmth from alcohol. Bitter lasting hoppy end. Lacks carbonation like most De Molen beers.

My flavor profile matches the great descriptions below (like Christian Scheffel’s wonderful cornucopia of essences) but this bottle (with wax seal) from BierKoning is just too flat (i.e. barely carbonated). It’s like the 6-pack of Bells Expedition I had got that lacked carbonation (my others since have all been effervescent) - - you know there are great flavors, but they just SIT there.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Cloudy dark copper with a non-existant off-white head. Looks like my homebrew barley wine. Smells like somewhere between that homebrew and paradise. That means tons of malt, port, brandy, biscuit, dried fruits like dates and prunes. Flavour is rich malty, filled with warming alcohol, dried fruits, and just enough hops to balance.
Fantastic beer. But despite the description on the homepage (I usually don’t care, but if the beer describes itself as...), this is not DIPA, it’s more barleywine than an Old Foghorn or a Bigfoot... Yummy!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Bierkoning. Deep amber body with no head. Sweet and fruity nose. Taste of caramel, malts, dark fruits and high ABV. Reminded me of a cognac more than an Imperial/Double IPA. Oily texture with a warming finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle, #236/324, brewed 29Dec08, bottled 02Feb09, with another big thanks to Molenbrouwer for the chance to try this! Pours a cloudy light brown with amber highlights, and a minimal tan head. Aroma is overripe apple, floral, citrus, and maybe some plum and grapefruit in there as well. Flavor has a nice hops bite, with more overripe fruits, citrus, caramelly malts that gives a nice balance, and some lingering floral and grapefruit on the finish. Very drinkable for a big ABV beer and more nuanced than your typical powerhouse DIPA, which works well. Thanks again Menno, for another very enjoyable beer!

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy to murky brown with a slowly collapsing tan head. Grapefruity hoppy aroma, smooth yet distinct hoppy. Fruity and peachy and slight grapefruity flavoured with a nice bitterness coming through. Bitter and fruity hoppy flavoured finish. Nice brew. Lovely.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very good beige head; dark brown beer with ruby highlights. Amarillo jumping out of the glass, resin, grapefruit, excellent nose. Bitter, C-hops, citrussy, resiny, malt syrup retronasal. Despite the Amarillo powerplay, the balance turns out just great. Slick, (hop)oily, viscous, and very well-bodied. This isn’t just great - it’’s truly excellent. One of Menno’s top-tries, absolutely!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at the Alvinne pre Zythos event 09. God the hops are lovely. Good fruits/red fruits, bit of peach and then full on US hops. Bit syrupy, lovely hops on end. Good though. Thanks to Menno for being such a great guy and sharing his beers at this event.
