Bottle. The aroma is malty, light sour, a soft touch of citrus. The head is large, beige and creamy-foamy, slow disappearing. The body is black. The taste is medical-bitter, strong taste of hops, some citrus. The body is creamy and light oily, heavy and without much carbonation

Superb Beer. Looks excellent in the glass deep red with a touch of haze, tan sticky looking head., huge aroma of spice, wild strawberries, toffee, caramel, treacle, liquorice, hops, orange - it just go’s on an on. Palate is instantly mouth coating with big hops up first, tonnes of dried fruit, apricot, more treacle, some mineral earthy motes, all the aromas follow through on to the palate except the strawbs perhaps. Lots of spicy chunky malt with a lovely warmth from the booze within, but not at all over powering abv-wise. Finish is long with lots of marmaladey treacle and some very well played hops making for great balance between bitter and sweet. Just a fantastic beer, and after having it at least 5 or more times I can safely say one of my all time favourites. De Molen are indeed, Righteous!

Big thanks to madmitch76 for sending this beauty across the pond. The 750mL, corked, caged and then red waxed bottle has a striking, nay, impressive pour. I see this muddy amber liquid glugging away out of a bright red waxed mouth of the bottle. It is a beautiful sight to be sure. In the glass it has a hazy murky amber body supporting a light tan head. The aroma is a clean mix of pine, musty malts, some raisins and some prunes. The taste has a thick aged maltiness blending into full rounded assertive pine hoppiness that strides smoothly into the finish. This has turned into a wonderful American style barleywine.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm) Dark brownish amber colour with brief head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, orange, grapefruit, red berries, rubber and huge amounts of piney, citrussy hops. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit and a generous hoppy bitterness with hints of black-currant, grapefruit and pine needles. Full body, fairly sweet and very bitter. Low carbonation. There’s a touch of warming alcohol but the hops and malt mask the alcohol level fairly well. Excellent beer.

Pours deep ruby, brown with a sticky, off-white head that fades slowly. Big, earthy, piney hop aroma with some underlying deeper malt like deep fruit or molasses and some pineapple in the back. Aggressive hop bite in the mouth, though quickly balanced out by a sweet, deep fruit malt character and a lingering, grassy hop bitterness. The alcohol is well hidden for the abv. As it warms, the sweetness becomes more pronounced, though the big hop profile remains. A great imp IPA.

Bottle #685, brewed 6th April ’09. Very dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is malty, slightly vegetal, with a distinct tang of grapefruit, which is also present in the taste, mingling delightfully with the sweet sticky, leathery maltiness. Mid to sharp bitterness. Immensely approachable and just right for a night of snow and frost.

Bottle 75 cl. Clear medium to dark amber orange color with a dense shaving foam style beige head leaving laces. Grapefruity hoppy aroma, smooth yet distinct hoppy, bitterness coming through. Very fruity with a distinctly hoppy finish.

sayravai (4674) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 23, 2009
(Bottled, 10.8% ABV) Orange-brown with a medium, tanned head. Strong, grainy-malty aroma with alcohol and strong exotic-fruity hops. Flavor is very grainy-malty with loads of hops poured in, even some ashy smokiness built in. Almost full body with low, soft-n-foamy carbonation. Alcohol is present, but not intrusive. A quite strange and very grainy-malty, heavy brew - a bit like Stille Nacht, but without the sweetness, and with a lot of hops added. Good, but a bit too heavy and barleywine-grainy for the style.

Very muddy brown, thin dissipating tan head, very light lacing
Aroma is quite Hoppy, lots of citrus and grapefruit, moderate sweetness, some carmel and very light chocolate.
Flavour is quite Hoppy, quite bitter, rich and chewy, lots of citrus, moderate sweetness.
Bitter and Hoppy mouth, mod body, sharp carb.
Finishes long and Hoppy, bitter.

One of the coolest looking beers I have ever seen, so muddy. Very drinkable, hides the alcohol very well.

750ml bottle obtained in a trade with bierkoning, thanks Edo.

Opened on August 2, 2009.

Bottle #244/384. Bottled on Nov 17, 2008.
