4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at home in London with Paul. Pours oily black-brown with a creamy, light beige cream head. Big woody, hard alcohol aroma, some burnt rubber and cocoa and dark sugar. There is a strong wood character in the flavor, medium to strong sweetness, charred malts, dark chocolate. Some burnt grass. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warm finish, lots of lightly dry wood, some mild smoke, cocoa, faint spice, scorched earth, moss, some dark fruits. A very impressive beer. Big and bold with tons going on. Excellent.

(A) 33 cl. bottle @ home / purchased @ hopduvel in Gent: (A) very, very dark brown, slight Bordeaux hued with little to pretty much no head formation going on / (S) very ‘De Molen’ with lots very, very strong grounded coffee beans, ’De Molen" smoke, dark malts, nicely roasted, thick fresh wood, almost peppery character to it, touch nutty / (T) very creamy, nice milk chocolate sweetness upfront followed by lots of ground coffee beans going into a very bitter finish, not much smoke in the flavour, slight touch fresh wood but not lots, slight hazel, nutty, touch ‘milky’, lots of cocoa, very bitter chocolate in the finish / (B) not as thick as you would expect, slightly slick & quite oily, not much carb. – very lovely, I have had the regular, wild turkey, this one and Misto so far, would rank this second after Misto (bottled on 14.11.2011)

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to Mark from the Atlanta crew for sharing this one. Pours an obsidian color with a tan head. Nose is roast, earth, spice, slight booze, some cognac, and a hint of smoke. Flavor is similar- cognac takes up residence like a best friend you never knew you had, and the beer is much better for it. Flavor also comes through with some spiciness and wonderful roasty/ chocolatey qualities along with it. Nicest De Molen stout to date.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pour dark/black, with a very small tan head.
Aroma is heavy of coffee, roasted malts, oatmeal, vanilla and a little bit of dark fruits. Cognac is really comming through towards the end, and gives this brew a rather dry finish.
Taste is sweet, with a roasty bitter aftertaste.
Medium oily body, with a semi-flat carb.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Wow, this beer looks truly one of a kind. 11.2 oz bottle with red wax on the cap. This looks like motor oil pouring into a class. Dark and sludgy, viscous. No head, just a light ring of fizz around the edge of the glass. Nose stinks of hops. That’s not a bad thing either. I don’t claim to know what cognac smells like but I don’t smell it to much. I do get coffee and chocolate however. It smells great! Taste is a lot bitter and a little sweet. It’s boozy, has a tinge from high alcohol. This could do with a year or two of aging. Mouthfeel is soft and silky. Nice long aftertaste. This is tempting as hell but can wait for a while.
