5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 haukur (1009) - Reykjavik, ICELAND - NOV 8, 2012
Fuck it!! Fuuuuuuck it!! A perfect 5! Massive massive aroma of vinegar, ply wood, oak, cognac, some whisky and also some attic funk. At first its quite acidic, but then a bomb hits you, PERFECT balance, the cognac shines but it balances so well with the beer. This is just amazing. Long long finish. A beer that is hard to make without going over the top. Jesus!! Best imperial stout I have had! Thanks Martinus!!

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2013 how can i say what i wanna make clear by this...
let me put it this way, if you wanna know perfection, stop searching and drink this !
i was so impatient to drink this ( it had been a rosethorn in the eye for months) so i finaly decided to open it with my dad. first time ever i got speachless. waw. lets not hide it, im a fan of the normal hal en verdoemenis as well, so my expectations where far to high to be healty. and this beer, well, it just CRUSHED my expectations, becouse it was even so much better !
now, how does it taste?
to begin , its black. pure black, pure awsomeness. it has a little foam, not to much though.
the scent is just waaw already.
the taste.. wel, take a hel en verdoemenis, and isolate all the perfect elements , you’ll get this beer !
above is the 2011 version, drank midway 2012.
the new batch ( bottles 5th of december 2012) drank 31-12-12 / 01-01-13 .
less carbonation ( too little even) maybe the biottle? roasted malts, coffee, bitter, ,cognac, chocolat, heavy mouthfeel, thick, high alcohol , yet realy drinkable. still, again, this is perfection !

Aroma is loaded with chocolate, rich coffee, vanilla, creme brûlée, toffee, molasses, raisins, dates, brown sugar and more! Rich flavor...it’s like drinking the best imperial stout mixed with the best coffee and chocolate ever made. Simply stunning.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2010 750ml bottle #036. I tasted this once before, and decided to score a couple bottles for home consumption. Now that, was a good call! It’s just as good as I remembered!!! Note to all 666 drinkers, the 375ml have been rumored to be flat, but the 750 was perfectly carbonated. This demon drink oozed out of the bottle to fill my snifter with a black mass culminating in a tan two finger head. An intoxicating aroma loaded with dark chocolate, vanilla, and roasted malt permeated the air. The taste, oh the taste. It’s not quite DarkLord but deserves to be mentioned in the same breath. A chewy complex multi-layered river of roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, and dark middle earth evilness run rough shot over the senses... My girl even said this brew is so good and corrupting that she might just miss church next week to spend her time practicing witchcraft and experimenting with lesbianism...
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 PhillyCraft (1971) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 18, 2012
12 oz Bottle, This one has been on the bucket list for awhile. I decided to crack it for an epic tasting. Pours a pitch black cola with small beige head. Lacing was medium. Huge aromas of soaked wood, cognac, roasted coffee and malts, cocoa powder, butter toast, and dark fruit. Taste is bitter chocolate, charred oak, mollases, fig, vanilla beans. Pretty drinkable for a de molen stout, not that syrupy. Intoxicating.

Bottle at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Pitch black beer with a small but quite lasting brownish head. Malty roasted aroma, caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, earthy, oaky, contacting notes, licorice, tar, figs, raisins, dades, whiskey notes, peat, vinous, earthy notes, dry hops, bitter but still with a lot of focus on the sweet parts from the original Verdoemenis. Malty chocolate flavor, caramel, soot peat, earthy, licorice, vinous notes, hops, raisins, figs, dades, pine, woody, oak, smoked notes, peat, dades, alcohol is very well hidden, body remains huge from first to last sip. Roasted chocolate finish, coffee, earthy, raisins, hoppy bitterness, licorice and some caramel. One of the best beers I have had the honor of tasting.
