3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jackl (2832) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 9, 2013
Bottle @ Mikkeller Viktoriagade. Deep brown with hardly any head whatsoever. The nose is german chocolate cake. Quite sweet milk chocolate. Mild ashy roast grain. Mild vinous berry. The taste has a strong red wine barrel profile. Somewhat tannic. Jammy acidic red fruits. Wood. Hints of roast, bitter choocolate. Smooth, but somewhat thin on the palate. Overall, an interesting beer, but not one I’d rush back to. This is probably my least favorite of the H&V line. Just too much bordeaux and little else.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Lilja (995) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAY 7, 2013
Smak och doft av krämig choklad, kaffe, torkad frukt. Tydlig fatkaraktär, vinös med känsla av rött vin. Trevlig beska.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jbeatty (542) - New York, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Reviewed from notes, bottle tasted 03/07/2013, thanks to jeffo. Pours black, hazy slick of foam on the surface, thin lacing. Aroma is light milk chocolate and dark fruit, subtle vinous notes. Taste is chocolate malts, a little chalky, coffee roast, muted red wine and oak. Medium palate, a bit watery. This was alright, but a bit muted and dull, perhaps one of my least favorite H&V treatments.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 gyllenbock (3022) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 30, 2012
Bottle bought in Copenhagen in 2010. My last beer in 2012, in total I drank 929 new beers in 2012.
Black with no head. The aroma was complex and vinous with roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, ash and some notes of alcohol. The taste was excellent. Vinous with dark fruit, coffee, dark chocolate, red wine and some alcohol. The body was unexpectedly "light". I really liked this beer, it was a worthy ending to 2012. Gott nytt år!

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Vignale (1403) - Malmö, SWEDEN - NOV 12, 2012
En riktigt kraftig IS.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Glouglouburp (5613) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 5, 2012
In short: A very juicy and very fruity big black beer. Decent sipper
How: Bottle (small, 180ml?) at Cardinal, Stavanger Norway
The look: Black body topped by a few big beige bubbles acting as a head
In long: The big malty nose is full of sweet roasted cereals, burnt raisins and some alcohol fumes bordering nail polish remover. Taste is a crusty raisin pie, juicy sweet prunes, roasted cookies, vanilla, blackcurrants, fresh dates, light notes of soy sauce, alcohol warmth. Overall very juicy-fruity and the ultra-soft carbonation made it feel even more like a thick juicy-fruity cocktail in mouth. I can’t say I tasted Bordeaux wine in this beer or even wood barrels, the beer was very fruity for sure but I wouldn’t call it vinous. Not my favorite Hel & Verdoemenis treatment, this was just an ok beer and it is probably a good thing it is sold in such small bottles. Certainly not worth the price I paid for this tiny bottle, sad to see this is a sought-after beer, and you know what’s worst than seeing someone buying an overpriced small beer bottle? Being that person.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 MotherBrother (555) - Aalborg, DENMARK - OCT 19, 2012
Oh boy, this takes me back to when I started getting into craft beer. Pour almost pitch black, with a small and creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, wood, some barrel notes, vanilla, slight leather, slight booze. The taste is sweet upfront, with a semi-long, slightly dry and nicely bitter aftertaste. Quite watery and oily (does that make any sense?) body, with a rather flat carbonation. A little heat in the throat. - Thanks to Chris for taking me down this memory lane.
