3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Probado en Animal de Madrid. Cerveza de color oscuro, con una espuma beige de persistencia media. Sabor marcado a madera, turba y chocolate amargo. Algo excesiva me gustó más la versión original. Retrogusto largo, con toques de madera y humo.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a pitch black with a small, forced brown head on top. Aroma is very peaty, smokey and there is little left to be found from the base beer. Very nice, full aroma. Flavour is quite sweet with big characters of Scotch whisky, peaty, syrup, molasses and booze. Cloying and sticky mouthfeel. Great sipper, very nice to enjoy during a harsh, rainy cold night. Great beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle @ Armin’s palace. Pours a deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Heavy smoked peaty, light chlorine/chemical, dark chocolate, herbal aroma. A bit thin body. Huge scotch peaty flavor with plenty of swamp ass. Ok.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at FoCo Stout Tasting 2013, courtesy of Armin. Thanks man! Pour is deep black with a small brown head that quickly dissipated. Huge smoke, woody, peaty, bacon grease, light cocoa, and coffee in the aroma. Taste is huge smoke, dirty earth, peat, charcoal, ashy, burnt toast and dough with a long, lingering smoky finish. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Like a heavy peated scotch.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pour thanks to armin, thanks man. This beer is nuts. Super peaty, smoky aroma, and it tastes like licking a frog dipped in scotch.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Kent BF 2013. Black beer with thin beige head. Peaty malt whisky aroma but with a heavy dose of high cocoa level dark bitter chocolate as well. Touch of TCP on the aroma. Now Islay whisky on the whole is not my favourite, but this is, well a lot more restrained than some. In the mouth it’s terrific. Good malty dark malt dark bitter chocolate flavour. Yes the peat and smoke is there and again on the finish. Some seaweed on the finish. For such a beer with strong aromas and flavours, it’s actually pretty well balanced, the sweetness and burnt chocolate flavour balancing the peaty smokiness of the barrel ageing. Deep big wide and does remind me of being on the Isle of Mull. It’s the sea you see. Good deep thick intense but balanced barrel aged impy stout. Menno again has done it. I’ve been keeping this for 6 months, waiting for a time to drink it. Saturday afternoon watching Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy seems to be fitting (Smiley works out of the Hotel Islay). I love both the story and De Molen’s impy stouts when done to this level of poised statement. I do like the character of Peter Guillam though. And Smiley is intelligent and is both soft and hard. I rather admire him even for all of his faults regarding women, or should I say I admire him because of his faults with his wife. Betrayal, loyalty, concentration and above all, doing your job damn well. As an impy stout barrel aged in Islay whisky casks, this does it well. Push comes to shove, it’s still a bit too obvious for me. I was always a more subtle, convivial man rather than concentrating on the intense single minded purpose. Oh and by the way I quite liked the beer.

Bottled 330ml@VWPBF, tnx bierkoning!
Dark opaque black color, small brown head. Very intensive smokey aroma. Full-bodied. Very roasted, lots of whiskey, tar, black malts. Whiskey in the aftertaste. Whiskey overdose.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark brown to black with low frothy tan head. Aroma of peats, whisky barrels, light coffee and chocolate, german sausage. Taste is peaty, smoky sweet with hints of chocolate but much more like a smoked ale than an imperial stout, I feel the barrels take over completely. Body is thick, oily and woody with soft carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle at home - bottled 5/09/2012. Pours pitch black with a small lingering head, beige.Aroma of vanilla, slight peat, dark chocolate, soy sauce, candi Sugar. Medium body, no carbonation, lots of alcohol heat, taste is a mix of varnish and green paprica. Original hel & verdoemenis is gone. Hmmm, okay I guess, certainly not the best BA version of H&V.
