Bottle at home, big thanks to Dennis, 330ml bottled 05/09/12 - 11% ABV, blackwax seal, 29/03/13. Light black with a thin tan head that quickly thins to nyadda. Nose is peated whisky, TCP, roast malts in the background. The whisky has taken over a little too much here. Taste comprises dark roast malts, peated whisky, medicinal notes, hint of liqourice, woody tones, dark chocolate, dark berry fruits, tobacco, leather, touch of booze. Full bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate. A little jeckyl and hide this one - not a great lookers, smell is overpowering on the peated whisky front however it redeems itself with a solid flavour and mouthfeel. Not their best offering though!

(bottle) pours a pitch black colour with a creamy brown head. aroma of heavy ash and medicinal phenols, cherries, tobacco, mouldy wood, grilled beef, soy sauce, dark chocolate and a light hint of apricots. flavour is mostly ash and heavily toasted malts, with a light cherry sweetness, some herbal hops, more oak and some sugar icing in the slightly roasted-bitter finish. extremely thick body with soft carbonation.

Pours darker than black. Nose: juniper tar oil, Zan, peat. Very dark forces invade your soul at the first sip, then salinity and mouthfeel, smoky backnose, peaty flavours on a huge malty backbone. Beer for smoking bears.

(Bottle, Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 22 Feb 2013) Black colour with lasting, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, coffee, honey and oak wood. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, black coffee, vanilla, oak wood and slightly peaty Islay whisky coming through in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness (a touch sweeter than the original H&V). Generous cacao bitterness shining through the whisky after a while. The original is probably more balanced, but this is still an excellent beer.

I was expecting great things form this H&V but it has far too much whisky for me. The Haver & Gort BA I drank just before it was much better.

330 mL bottle, served in a snifter alongside the original version at a tasting at Chris’ place. Pours black with a small tan head that fades slowly to a thin cover. The nose has big chocolate and molasses, along with huge scotch barrel and peat. There are also moderate herbs, spice and caramel, but these are overpowered by the scotch barrel. The flavour is malty, with a complex blend of molasses, roasted malts, brown sugar, coffee and dark chocolate. Peat and whisky barrel come through and dominate. The finish is long and lingering roasted malts. On the palate, it is full in body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice imperial stout with strong whisky barrel and peat. For me, this was too domineering, and detracted from the otherwise beautiful base beer. 2012-11-23

Very dark brown reddish, like black in the glass. The wishkey is not mu thing for sure. Ruined this one a bit for me. Can imagine some love this one, like the company I shared the bottle with. But im no fan.
