Tap, pours a nice black, with a nice froathy head, aroma is a nice dark roasty, maybe a little bit of whiskey/scotchy. The flavour is a nice roasty.petty, the flavour of the barrel aging as it warms and becomes some what rough around the edges. Overall, pretty decent.

Bottle from Bierkompass. Pitch black beer with a small brown head. Oily peat and whisky aroma, hay, really roasted, prunes, smoked, tar, licorice notes, soot, coffee. Salty peat flavor, leather, heavy roasted, licorice, tar, soot, whisky, coffee, hugely roasted, ash, cigarette notes. Almost too heavy and with peat all over it. The base is a lovely beer but this version is not the best.

Bottled, thx rlgk. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Smells smoky, roasted malt, abit smoked meat. Tastes roasted malt, very smoky, extreamly salty.

Borefts Beer Festival IV. Day 1. Opaque black beer, massive tan head. Big TCP nose. Creamy soft palate. Fresh minerally dark malts. The TCP whisky is quite smooth and well integrated. Some lactose. Finishes dry with spicy TCP whisky linger. Not normally liking this much TCP but here it’s so fresh and smooth I’m seduced.

Draft at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. This was a road beer, which accompanied me on the walk from De Molen to the train station at the end of Day 1. Pours black, oily, with a fine, beige cream head. Huge peat nose, some roasted malts. Medium to big sweet flavor with tons of peat character, light burnt rubber, ash, oak, burnt wood, burnt grass, charred sugars. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with lingering peat, mild chocolate, charred wood. Pretty damn nice, especially if you like your peat.

Huge thanks to jbeatty! Shared with GT2 as well. Thick, motor oil black pour with a brown head. Nose and flavor bring heavy peat smoke, not the campfire/bacon character from a rauchbier, but a big salty, earthy smoke. Definitely intense. Chocolate balance from the base beer comes out a touch as it warms, but still straight-forward smoky aggression. I could understand why this wouldn’t be everyone’s thing, but those bits of balance combined with a great smooth palate mean that I like this stuff quite a bit.

330mL black wax thanks to jbeatty! Pours clear, deep sepia looking inky in the glass. Medium, reddish mocha head. Nose is heavy peaty Islay scotch, even though Bunnahabhain is not that peaty straight up. Iodine and charcoal. Pretty intense. Taste is a bit chalky, lots of cocoa powder, some yeast character, milk chocolate, melted chocolate. Iodine peaty flavor is okay but not necessary- a little intense. Palate is spicy, thick, some lemon bitters, herbal gin character. Over time the nose really softens up. Very nice dark chocolate and dark alcohol.

Bottle, 10/27/2012. Pours pitch black, thin tan head fades to hazy slick, thin ring of lacing. Aroma is sea spray and smoked malts, dark fruits and chocolate, spicy caramel and whiskey barrel. Taste is peat, smoke, bacon, dark chocolate and bitter roast, more smokiness and whiskey in the finish. Thick body, dry. Wow, very unique H&V treatment, smoky without being too aggressive.
