Waxed bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a snifter. ABV 10.5% Pours totally black with a huge dark brown head, ever rising, thick, with great retention. Heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, alcohol, coffee, wood, light bourbon, light wine notes as it begins to warm up. Taste of dark roasted malts, light acidity, liquorice, alcohol, light whiskey, bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Not much of the wine and the bourbon is a bit faint, but it’s still very good. Full chewy body low carbonation. Sticky palate. Overall very good.

bartlebier (1479) - Belchum im Breisgau, GERMANY - JUN 2, 2014
Draught@FdB Köln 2014, SA. Perfectly balanced, very subtle and smoothed-out blend of their ImpStout classic, with that distinct, but again subtle red wine barrel deep red berry component, smoothing out the tar and barrel astringency towards silky succulence and excellent drinkability. Underneath, and at the core of this treat: deep 60% bitter chocolate, confident roasted malts not in need of proving they can play espresso; just the right amount of what feel like natural, supportive sugars and caramels, a separate dimension of butterscotch and bourbon vanilla. Seamy, creamy mouthfeel, with any yeast character remaining a ghostly absence. Hard to find fault or top, this gorgeously restrained (!) exercise in integrated less-is-more-despite-there-being-much-more-than-in

33 cl bottle (bottled on 19 Nov. 2013). Black color. Rocky beige head with reasonable retention. Aroma’s: Sweet, chocolate, tar, a bit burnt, umami, barrel (oak), a bit vinous. Sweet, vinous, smoky, tar, chocolate, light vanilla, quite complex. Flavor is moderate sweet, hard roasted, tar, moderate bitter. Fairly strong alcohol feel. Medium to full bodied. Finishes with as, tar and quite bitter. Impies and wine are not the best match, but this is good.

Sample from a bottle @ ’t Antwaerls Bierhuyske, thanks to 77ships for sharing. Pitch black with a medium thick brown head and some lacing. Aroma is of fudge/chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt and berries. Taste is slightly sweet with a lot of fudge/chocolate again, bourbon, vanilla, berries and a roasted malt/bitterness finish. Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Velvety mouthfeel. Warming finish. Light alcohol touch. Rich, complex and decadent. Another good version of the Hel & Verdoemenis. Delicious.

Thanks! 33 cl. bottle sampled @ ’t Antwaerps Bierhuyske. Pours pitch-black with a huge frothy chocolate mouse head. Nose is a thick syrupy roast with chocolate sauce, charred oak with blueberry and brambleberry syrup, lovely. Thick and warming, chewy feel to it with brambleberry, blueberry syrup, light roast, charred oak, faint bourbon but only a touch, palm sugar, dark chocolate. Lower carbonation, very decadent and very lovely. Nicely done.
